What age was LO when you stopped using sleeping bags?
« on: July 06, 2014, 20:26:11 pm »
Just that really...

DD is only 15 months but seems to be getting annoyed with her sleeping bag. Often as soon as she's in it she's trying to pull it off and seems uncomfortable. It's pretty big on her with loads of leg room but maybe she's just had enough?

She moves around a lot  in her sleep so I'm just not sure how she'd do with a cover? I'm thinking it would be off as soon as I put it on her!
If I switch is it likely to make her already not great ns even worse?!  :-\

I'm also thinking about introducing a pillow as well.. whenever she's tired now she pulls a pillow off the sofa and lays down on it. Wondering if she might find it comfy or keep her more anchored to that one spot?

When the side came off the cot bed last summer, so 2y9mo approx! He got a pillow then as well to help keep him in place in the bed.

If LO is still in a cot and not trying to climb out then a bag is safe, but after that it isn't as they can fall if they try to climb or walk about in the bag.

Is the bag the correct tog weight for the season? Could she be trying to pull it off because she's too hot?

We got rid of the bag last summer when it was boiling (DD was about 20 months) and she was happy to sleep with a thing sheet in the heat. When the weather cooled I figured we may as well go to a duvet rather than back in re bag and then wean to a duvet later on. She was still in a cot at the time but now she's in a bed and it still suits her fine.

My DD was a really fidgety sleeper when she was younger, like all over the cot.  We got rid of the sleeping bag around 7 months as it kept getting twisted with all the moving about.  At that point she wouldn't stay under a blanket either, which didn't matter in summer, but in winter we just layered her up with fleece footie pjs and she was fine.  We introduced a pillow at around 18 months, which totally stopped the fidgeting and, as you say, kept her anchored with a 'head end', and then she was fine with a duvet too.

It's a 1 tog bag and she's only wearing shorts and t shirt pj's but she does still feel warm sometimes so perhaps I'll try a sheet.
I was going to save the pillow until she went into a bed but I might try it now. I think all will happen if she doesn't like it is move to the other end.

My boy is 16 months now and he is in a sleeping bag. I can't see us getting rid of it as he does 360s around his cot all night long. Not only that he sleeps on his tummy (his doing not ours, he seems to scream when we lie him on his back) so I think a pillow and blanket might be a little unsafe for him. He didn't like the bag that had too much leg room as he got all twisted at night so we keep it short, just about 15cm longer than he is so he can still walk/shuffle along. Hope that helps.

Mine is 33 months and we still use them as it keeps him in the crib. I don't know about after the crib is turned into a bed. We have them for sizes 3-6 year old so they must be safe to use in a bed. Right now we are using the 1.0 tog grobag but I have dream bags too in 1.0 and 2.5.

3 weeks ago, she turned 3 yesterday. I tried to coax her out of them earlier because i feared what would happen when she no linger a fit in them. Not a chance. And when they started to get a bit uncomfortable, she still wanted me to out her in one for bed but then he'd take it off at some putbt. This graduated to all I a sudden one day not having it on but having it rolled or folded and out in bed with her.
