Do I need to she/pat for naps
« on: July 19, 2014, 12:57:03 pm »
Hi there.

My baby is 6 months old. He tended to go down fairly well for naps until recently.

What I want to know Is should I be shh/patting him to calm him down at each nap? I've just started doing this at bed time as he's a nightmare to settle (suspect that a lot of this is tied into needing to extend A times). Up until the last week ago he used to just grumble a little for less than 10 minutes then sleep but now because he's been ill he's got back into the habit of feeding to sleep and now he won't go down. Should I shh/ pat as standard part of his nap and bed time routine?

Thanks

You need a routine, certainly, but what's in that is up to you.  If sh-pat helps him to relax, then use sh-pat. Here's a handy link on winding down, it might help.
What does a good wind down consist of (Includes 4S ritual)

Bear in mind that tweaking your wind down won't help much if what he needs is a routine tweak :)
