Almost 15 months ew getting worse and worse
« on: July 21, 2014, 11:04:55 am »
I'm back again. Based on some great advice here my daughter's ew improved a bit but is now getting worse again. She is waking at 5:30 and this morning woke at 5. I usually resettle her and then she will make it to 6:30, but it's not solid sleep--from the monitor it sounds like she is out for 20 min, awake again for a few, then asleep again. Her naps are one capped from about 9:45-10:15 and another from 2-3:30. Should the first one be even shorter? I'm confused because I thought once she makes the transition to one nap her daily sleep would be about 2 hours which is what she is getting now. Does it matter that much if she gets it in one long nap as opposed to the two she is getting now? The ews are killing me. :(

Sorry your post was missed hon.

It looks like she is ready for one nap. The early nap is probably causing the EW :-\
Do your cap the am nap ATM or does she wake herself?

I cap the first nap at 30 minutes. Lately when she wakes at 5:30, if I catch it right away, I can resettle her and she'll make it to 6:30. I'm so scared to try one nap! By 9:30-10 am she just seems so out of gas that I'm not sure what would happen if I push her another few hours to get one nap at around 12.

Well you don't have to push that much all at once....what often works is pulling the nap earlier more like 10.30/11 for 2-3 hrs. If her nap is short try to AP/resettle back to sleep. Or offer a CN, or go for EBT.

Some OT is inevitable unfortunately with the 2-1 switch.

So I'd probably attempt it on a morning she has had a good night sleep and 6am or later WU. Something like this
WU 6
A 4.5 hrs
Nap 10.30-12.30 or as long as she likes
A 5-5.5 hrs
BT 6/6.30

Hopefully what will happen is once she settles down you can gently push the nap and the day will shift.

What do you think?

That sounds like a good plan. One question--on early bedtime days, does that mean even earlier waking the next morning?

The point of EBT is that it catches your lo before they are too OT. OT often causes short nights. So EBT can and often results in a longer night or the same WU time (meaning lo has s better night sleep) some kids don't respond and do wake earlier but most I've seen on here don't do this. So I think it's worth a shot as tis a great tool to help you through nap transitions.

Does that help :-\ :)

Hi krdswift,  no advice sorry but just offering support :). My little one is going through the same thing at the moment. He's 15 months in a couple of weeks!!  We pretty much do the same routine but mix it up with some 1 nap days (when he use to wake later) but he seems to get less sleep when we do 2 naps because I can't quite get the timing right for the second nap where he'll only do 45-60min-very rarely 1.5hr.. It's so hit or miss. Great that you get a big nap still.  I'm thinking now though after reading this I just need to bite the bullet and get him on one nap. Does your little one wake crying when EW?

No crying during ew--just chattering. I'm thinking of biting the bullet too and moving to one!

I stuck my finger in his mouth today an discovered a new tooth...so now I'm wondering if this has had something to do with the early waking the last few days because he wakes up upset and crying?!?  But we have done 1 sleep the last 2 days.  It's such a long time to bedtime though because he'll only sleep 1.5hr max.

My boys always EW when about to cut a tooth so definitely could be the reason. Try an EBT for a bit and see if the extra NTS helps him to be less tired in the morning.

How long is his day on the 1 nap days?

Hi krdswift... Have you had a go at the 1 nap?  Just seeing how you and the little one are getting on?
