Baby porridge with whole milk?
« on: July 22, 2014, 10:18:58 am »
Is it ok to make home made baby porridge with whole cows milk at 6 mos (AK has a recipe with oats, whole milk, dried apricots and pears, whizzed up with a stick blender) ?

I know whole cows milk ok in cooking but also in porridge?  Everywhere else seems to suggest using formula or ebm?

I believe the 'ok in cooking' aspect of whole milk from 6 months is partly about it being more convenient (than formula or breast milk) to use in preparing meals (especially meals for the family) rather than it actually needing to have undergone a cooking process. It's already pasturised so will be safe so long as there is no cow's milk intolerance etc. The other aspect of 'ok in cooking' is just that it mustn't be used as their regular milk drink as it doesn't have the same nutritional value of formula or bm.

So I'd say it's fine :)

Thanks creations :)

I'll go for it then.

Bought a packet of baby porridge last time with L but for some strange reason (maybe down to H's temperament ;) ) I feel like I have a touch more time on my hands so would like try try making it from scratch.

Just need to buy some whole milk now!

Yeah I think (if I remember back to Z as T can't have dairy) that milk in cooking or in food was fine from 6 mths. It's as a 'food' itself that the issues arose :-\

Yum porridge....I may have some for breakie tomorrow ;)
