24m Waking in the night for 1.5-2 hours
« on: July 27, 2014, 18:28:53 pm »
My son who just turned 2 last week has been waking in the middle of the night for about 6 weeks now. I thought maybe to begin with it was some milestone (as he is still not talking) but it doesn't seem to be going away. From about 1 year on, he was a fantastic sleeper. 3x this week he has been up in the middle of the night crying off and on for 2 hours.
Schedule like this:

7-8am - wake up
11-11:45 Nap 9(1.15-2hours in length)
6:30-7pm bed time

Is the nap too early? Bedtime too early? He has been getting up earlier and earlier in the morning as well.. around 6am. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Hi,
No suggestions on the routine as I will leave that to someone who can best advise, but I have a 22 month old and when she wakes up for that amount of time in the night, I definitely think it is due to her teeth. We have had these occasional 1-2 hour NWs for months although usually no more than 1-2 nights every couple of weeks and then a tooth normally appears. So it could be that? What do you think?

Good luck anyway x
Claire

Thank you! He does have a complete set of teeth minus the 2 year molars.. so it could be these! The last two nights he has slept through the night thank goodness, although last night about 10:30-11:00 he was laughing in his sleep for about 30 minutes. Thats a new one!

I always find just as I have reached the end of my tether and post on here or start reading the books again that E suddenly decides to sleep again!  ;)

hey i'm no expert but i think his bed time is a bit early. I would think at this age it should be 12 hours after wu time. It looks like his bt is 10.5/11 hours after. My little girl is hns and she would find this too short a day

It is a pretty short day and the nap is rather early...if it isn't teeth I would be pushing the nap later as well as bedtime to see if it helps any.

Thanks everyone! I think we might try for a bit later bedtime.. maybe 7:15 and see if that does anything... but... yesterday evening, I found 1 new two year molar in the back of his mouth. Feels like it just sprouted within the last couple of days.
