I know this too well.  It is an investment!  You will reap the harvest soon.  Lots of vibes~~  Perhaps do some fun things instead of watching the clock and count down.

What time do you put him in bed? I put Jacob in at 7.15ish and be reads/ plays football cards until I turn his light out at 7.45pm. So I only lose 15mins  ;).

But DS is older isn't he?? My DD is closer in age, but an easy 12 hr sleeper, so I've never tried it with her.

Aishi - DH has started recently to let Olly play a little and then tell DH when he is ready for bed. Olly has never been easy at BT and has fought it if the slightest bit UT or OT. So this was a compromise - DH giving Olly some control over BT. Tonight apparently DH let him turn his own light off when he was ready - and he did! I would never have dared thinking he would be up till all hours!

Anyway, I do think that kids are much older before they can read etc before bed themselves but Olly is 4y 7m old and we are getting closer.

HTH x

Thanks BB. I do think hes too young right now to stay in his room and tbh even if he did I still wouldn't feel like it was me time cos I would know he's still awake iykwim?

He woke at 6.30 today. Is this going to work? I don't think his body clock is shifting yet...he was doing 6/6.30  BT with 5.30/6 wu and is getting less ons too...

Ha, you say that, but only a week or so ago I forgot to put DS to sleep  :o. He came walking downstairs at 8.15pm upset that I had forgot him saying he was 'so tired Mummy'  :-[. My defense is that the house was beautifully quiet, so it really felt like Y time!

Were you really getting 5.30-6am wake-ups after a 6pm bedtime? I thought it was more 5-5.30 after 6.30-7??

Only 7 days  :-[  :-\

Lol Liz. I doubt ds would ever be that quiet.  No he was def getting 11.5h ons. I was doing 7.30 set BT but wu was creeping earlier to 6 so i started doing BT at 6.30/6. This is what always happens when i push bt later. We eventually end up at 6/5.30 wu again but I've never done BT as late as 8...maybe I should give it a few more days and then push further?

Just hold at 8pm then. Just leave it alone  ;). It takes 2-3-4 weeks, and he will always do the odd random
EW as it is a wiring thing.

Otherwise you continue early and accept the early start, because 5.15am isn't an EW after a 6pm wake. It's just sleep complete isn't it? An EW as a baby is less than 10.5 hrs night sleep, but you can't really say that at this age anyway.

Is it an issue? Is he getting very grumpy??

Lol no. I am! Ok I'll stick with it. Keep nagging me too.

You're right its not ew for him-just me!

Olly's night was 8.30-6.30 so only 10 hours  :P couple of things that we think were the reasons that might help - first he did a poo within about 20 mins! And second a pattern we find is that as he is at nursery weds to fri and they eat at 4pm (although he does have lots of snacks at home later) then he wakes earlier. At home we eat about 6pm so he is nice and full at BT. HTH x

What I could see is that, since nap dropping, what really matters is not the length of the single night, but rather the average. So, F can do periods (few days or even one week or two) of shorter nights and longer days, then he compensates with stretches of longer nights and shorter days. His behavior is OK, so I think he is fine with this amount of sleep. And if you think about this, we are the same (at least I am), and we could have stretches of short nights if we can have a long night once a week. This was the way in which I coped with 6-7 h sleep before children (my sleep needs are more 8-9 h), doing a long catch up in the weekend...
So, I would not consider the minimum night length, but the average night length that he needs not to become OT. Now we are at less than 11 h (10.5-10.75), usually the minimum he does is 10 h (the maximum being 11.5 h), but we were out for few days camping and we had late nights and early days due to light coming in in the morning, and he dealt well with even the single 8.5-9.5 h night. He crashed for a short nap in the car though, a couple of times.
Since July, we also could shifted the usual time from 9 pm - 7.30-8 am to 10 pm - 8.30 -9 am, and we did it with a couple of nights at 9.30 pm and then jumping to 10 pm. He adjusted well, after a couple of earlier mornings. We are going back to the usual schedule now, as summer holidays are finished...

Speaking of car naps...we've had a full day out at a theme park and hes fallen asleep in the car since 5.30. I can't wake him for love nor money! Its going to be 6.15 by the time we get home and he will wake. Should I still try for 8pm BT or put him straight to bed if hedoesnt wake??!
