40 min naps, short awake times?
« on: September 02, 2014, 15:58:54 pm »
I have a entirely breast fed 16week old DD that confuses me with awake time and i think now its affecting her naps. She used to have a great morning nap (2-2.5hrs). Then 2- 1-1.5 hrs second/third naps.
Now every nap is 40 -50 min-ish.

Her awake time are around 1hr-1 hr15 which I know is short --i wonder if i am misreading her signs. IF I start to lengthen 10-15 mins she sleeps worse all day- MAybe she is has high needs for sleeping? Although she never falls asleeep in the car, stroller, carrier, etc Has been like that since day one. I have always had to put in crib to get her to sleep. I feel like the obvious things is too shorten her awake time so she doeant get fussy? bUt i am starting to think she needs to stay awake longer and battle through the short naps and fussy awake periods so that she happily awake longer. She doest like when i stay in the room very long to shh/pat and soothe- she thinks its time to get up or cries harder. She doesnt take a soother either.
When she wakes from naps after 45mins she talks to herself but doesnt cry- take 20mins to either make her get upset or fall back asleep. -  Does that mean she is UT?

Your baby sounds EXACTLY like mine... And he's 17 weeks! I've been trying to get answers, as well. Starting to wonder if it's just something we have to deal with for a month or two and then maybe one day they'll just start taking long naps again?!  ???

It's super frustrating though when people I talk to act like this is really strange and make me feel worse about it. Have you tried using W2S? I have a handful of times and it has actually worked a couple of those times but woken him up a couple others. So I'm still not completely sold.

Wishing us both some nice, long and consistent naps soon! :-*

I have a few friends that have gone through it- most say its a phase and it passes.
How long it last is another story. I have heard it can last from 3 weeks to 6 months :(

I have not tried wake to sleep because my DD doesn't do well with me being in the room long. It seems to confuse her and make things worse.  She is a super light sleeper too.

Fingers crossed this too shall pass :)
