Mum with terrible memory can't remember about nap.please help
« on: September 04, 2014, 08:07:07 am »
Hi lovely ladies,
my just turned 2 year old is refusing his nap.It has happened kind of gradually so I slowly delayed it from 12 to 12:30 then 1 then 1:30.
I never let him sleep past 2 :30.Bed time is 7pm.He wakes at around 7am.

Today he would not nap saying mum please please and started crying.
He was tired very very tired but kept it together well (no dinner and normally he eats enough food for 4 people).Bed at 6:40 by 6:45 he was asleep.
Is this it? Should I still offer the nap? what do I do? please

I would offer a nap every day and let him choose if he takes it (we had to force DS to sit down by letting him watch a DVD after lunch, and if he needed a sleep he would then conk out!).

is 2 the usual age to drop the nap? You would not guess I have an older child and managed to forget it all!!!

My DS started nap dropping around that age, but they do vary a lot.

My oldest still napped until he turned 3. My youngest was a uch better sleeper than him but started dropping hers at 2 and was all done with it by 2.25.

I think my oldest stopped at 3 as well. The younger has always been a great sleeper but it was starting to get his night time bed time a bit funny if he had a longer nap.

We had lots of nap refusals around that age (don't forget developmental birthday leaps). I would offer every day, and use EBT if nap refused. If you get a couple of NNDs in a row you could try an APOP quick car nap or stroller nap in the afternoon just to ward off too much OT.  Or actually try an early nap the next day as after a NND his usual nap time may be too late.

We were all done with naps here by 2.5yo x
