Sorry I don't remember the times - they will be similar to the previous schedule posted, we're working on 1.25-1.5 hrs uptime.

OK - so only working on one nap won't confuse him? Everyone says consistency is best, but at the moment we're doing all naps differently.

Have you considered the possibility of reflux? Hoarseness can be one of the symptoms, as can screaming when being put down, so it is probably worth looking to see if there are any other symptoms - you won't be able to get him on any kind of routine if he is in pain from reflux.

^^^yes definitely a good point.

Sorry to keep asking but if you could when you get a chance record what time LO wakes, when you start trying for a nap, when LO actually sleeps and for how long it would really help us to advise you better. 10 mins either way can make a huge difference at this age, especially for some touchier babies and it may be just sone tiny adjustments would really help you :)

Consistency in how you are settling LO will definitely help but avoiding OT as much as you can is also sensible as a very OT LO is in no position to learn independent sleep skills. I would keep trying for the first and possibly second naps in the crib and then use your other methods later in the day.

Again very helpful.

Today he woke at 5.55am (we think - thats when he made a noise anyway). And started putting him down at 7.30am with a 5-10 wind-down so in his bassinet at 7.40. Possibly a bit OT but he didn't show any signs prior to this. He cried quite hard for 5 mins so DW picked him up and he fell asleep on her almost straight away and slept for 1.5 hours.

Now the reflux point is a good one as he does have reflux and is on Gaviscon for it. His bassinet and cot are both slightly raised. (Pretty sure the hoarseness was from crying though, as its the first time it happened - and the most we have let him cry).

We thought we could tell the difference between his pain (reflux) cries, and his tired cries. And we thought that the Gaviscon was working. And there are other times when he doesn't mind lying down at all - such as last night where he slept from 7pm through until 5.55 with only a quick feed at 11.30pm. And on the change table etc.

That said maybe it is still the reflux - since he fell asleep so fast when being picked up and then sleeping upright. In which case I guess its just a waiting game until his reflux goes away?

On the plus side, the routine still seems to be helping him sleep better, even if not in his bassinet, as he slept for 1.5 hours which is unusual. And he had another two good length naps today.
