8 month old refusing afternoon nap
« on: September 13, 2014, 05:37:57 am »
My 8 month-old sleeps well in the morning, 1 1/2 to 2 hr naps usually 2 or 2 n a half hour after he wakes up. N then arnd 2 when I put him down for his second he would jus scream n scream even for 1 hr. Finally he will be cranky n overtired by 7 when he sleeps n then again will wake up screaming at 8 or 9 pm refusing to sleep upto 11 pm. Sometimes he will fall asleep nursing at 4 pm in
the evenings, sleep for 30 mins n wake up crying. What should I do? He wakes up at 7 am n is asleep by 7.30 pm usually.

There is a SR around 8 months so you could well be in that ;)
Can  you post your day in eas so I can see the A times etc. I 'think' your lo may need a jump in A times to be tired enough to take the pm nap ;) x

Your A times are really short so he is likely UT fore the first nap and second one, then gets OT from the refusal and by bt. They get in tottered silly loops sometimes ;)

First I'd try to push your A times for both naps. A min of 3 hrs A between naps and you might find you need,to give more A time between the naps or he won't be tired enough.

Something like this
WU 7
Nap 10-11.30
Nap 2.-5-4 at the latest
Bt 7-7.30

What do you think?

But he s quite tired by 2 hrs of A time in the morning n goes down easily. I tried pushying activity to 3 hrs with the same result No afternoon nap I also suspect he s going through seperation anxiety as he s quite clingy n doesn't like if I leave the room. Yesterday he outright refused the afternoon nap n was quite cranky n was knocked out by 7. But woke an hr late screaming

He prob goes down easy and shows tired signs out of habit. When you pushed to 3 hrs A did you do it gradually and hold the routine for a week or two as all routine changes like this take time to see results.

It is prime SA time too, and their mobility takes off causing disruption.

Your other option is cap the am nap shorter ie 45 mins-1 hr so he's more tired for the pm nap
