6 mo lost routine - how to get it -and normal naps - back again?
« on: September 18, 2014, 19:14:36 pm »
Hi - I'm new here so hoping I can get some much needed advice.

DD is six months (exactly today!) but has lost her routine lately - maybe due to growth spurt? maybe due to change in weather (we are currently living in S Africa and it's just got really hot). OLD routine was roughly 6:30-7am wake/feed, 7-8:30-9 awake, 8:30-9 sleep, 10:30-11 wake/feed, 11-12:30 awake, 12:30-2:30pm sleep, 2:30 wake/feed, 3-4:30-5 awake, 5-ish cat nap (30-40mins), 6pm wake/feed/bath/bed routine and asleep by 7pm. DF 10pm. A couple of night wakings to pop the dummy back in, usually around 3 and 5am.

Recently I have started her on solids which has produced a few more constipated looking poos and also waking due to pooey nappies. Her morning nap has gone down to 45mins and she's become really tired by 8:30 so I can hardly get her to 9am at all. She's also started waking earlier and often every hour from 4 which is tiring to say the least. It's like she can get back to sleep after waking in the night (we have to get up to pop the dummy back in - something I would like to change but not ready yet) but then can't transition past the 45minute mark so wakes again. Lately it's meant the day has started at 6-6:30 in terms of awake time which throws everything off.

Afternoon naps are now around the 1hr15 - 1hr30 mark instead of 2hrs and she's less interested in the late cat nap though gets cranky anyway and then difficult to settle at the actual bedtime.

HELP! Feel like I'm losing my mind. She's never been in a set routine (moving continent in first four months meant we never got one going early) but she's a textbook baby so I feel like she should be more settled in one than she is.

All advice, tips welcome. Thanks!

Hi there and welcome to BW! I suspect LO is getting ready to drop the CN and needs an A  push to about 3 hours. I would be sure to go easy on solids at this time and make sure, as I am sure you are, that most of her calories are still from BF or formula, however you are feeding her. What do you think? Keep us posted! :)

Thank you for your advice. I read up on 3-2 and it ticks so many boxes. I've started doing that and she's immediately slotted into it! Getting to sleep is taking a bit longer at bedtime but all naps have been adopted like a pro (like I say, textbook baby!)

I'm going to give her a break from solids too for the next couple of days as she's still backed up, bless her.

Appreciate your wisdom :) still learning...

Sweet LO! Yeah maybe back off on the solids and push those A times. We are here when the next bump comes around!
