Hi Hun-
You're definitely a little all over the place right now!  I would say that I would try to keep with a more consistent A time -- you should be somewhere around the 1.15 mark (Average A times- BOOKMARK ME! ) so I might try that and see what kind of nap you get out of it.  When she does take a longer nap is she making it through sleep cycles on her own or does she need help?  Swaddled?  Going down independently?  It does seem more like an A time thing to me, but not totally sure.

When she has a good nap I don't need to go in at all. She will sleep 1.5 / 2hrs on her own. If she wakes after 30mins which seems to be the usual at the moment she is very difficult to get back to sleep. She will sometimes go back to sleep if I put her in her swing, but if I hold her and rock her back to sleep they lay her down again she usually wakes after another 30mins.

I think it might well be A times, the problem is if we don't get the first nap as a good one then we generally don't get a good one for the rest of the day.

If I cant resettle a short nap how long should I keep her A time to?

Today has been a disaster. She has maybe had 2 30mins naps all day. She is shattered but wont fall asleep even in her swing. I'm guessing 30 mins naps are OT?

I am having one last ditch attempt in her swing but if she doesn't fall asleep in 10 mins I'm going to try to take her a run in the car as DH has came home and taken DD1 out.

If that doesn't work then who knows what will happen at BT  :o

30 minute naps are usually OT for sure!  It does sound like you need some A time tweaking.  I will say with my third that it was all in how he woke up, not how long he napped for.  If he woke up happy and chatty he needed more A time but if he woke up cranky he always needed less.  If he short naps, definitely cut the A time -- at his age you could probably be able to put him down as soon as he shows you sleepy signs.  I'd keep the A time pretty low key as well just because they get so easily overstimulated at that age.  Car naps are a good thing at that age when they're OT!

Your first nap both days looks good -- do you feel like that was too short for her?  After that I think you need more A time.  With my girls, I found we had to do a shorter A time in the lot into and them have it lengthen after that (also true with many other babies on the forum.  The second day especially I think you've got a bit of an undertired/overtired loop in that she wasn't tired enough for the second nap but then as it was shorter and broken you're having the problem of her being OT after that.

With your day today, A times after longer nights can be tricky -- with her getting up later you probably needed to make it a bit longer.

The last 2 days my first nap has been 30mins, I was a little too late putting her down so it was 1hr 15/20 instead of 1hr 10 so that must be enough to make her OT.

So today has been
WU 7:40
E    7:40
A
S  9:00 - 9:30

So my question is when would you put her down for her next nap and what do I then do about her next bottle. I was thinking maybe 45 mins A time (not sure if that's too long or not long enough) but that would mean her next bottle would be due 25 mins after she went to sleep. Do I just feed her early

How did the 45 minutes A time work?  There's a lot of trial and error when you play with a times -- I would just use the next nap to gauge how well I did with my A time changes.  I'd also just feed early if need be -- sometimes you'll just end up getting a good long nap then (and them you can rule out hunger if she wakes early from the nap)

It ended up being 1hr before I got her to sleep, she did a 30mins nap,i managed to re settle but she only slept for 10mins then I moved her to her swing then 10mins later she slept for 2hrs in it.

I've been keeping a log of nap lengths

A time                         Nap length
1hr 15                              1hr 45
55mins after 50min nap   50mins
1hr 20                           55mins
50mins after 55min nap   50mins
1hr 15 after 50mins nap   30mins
1hr 20                           30mins
1hr 20                          30mins then 2hrs in swing
1hr 10                          52mins nap
1hr 3mins                          40mins then 1hr 10 in swing

I just cant figure her out, going to keep logging to see if I can see a pattern. Not sure if I need to start sleep training soon also.

1.15 seems like a really good A time for her -- I'd push it to about an hour (maybe a touch longer) after a short nap and see where that gets you.  I'm guessing the 30 minute nap after the 1.15 A time after the 50 minute nap was an overtired nap.  Is she able to fall asleep independently?  If she is, then your goal should be to get the schedule right before you worry about doing any sleep training.  If you get the A times right, it seems like she'll sleep ok through transitioning through sleep cycles which is great.

she doesn't really go down independently. I walk about with her a bit and if she wants it I give her a dummy then lie her down. I then sneak in 5 mins later and pull her dummy out.

During the night I put her down awake and she puts herself back to sleep.

Well last night she slept from 17:50 - 7:35 with just a DF at 22:30. I think she is catching up from not sleeping during the day, could this be putting her off napping during the day, even though I can see she is clearly tired. Or is that not really an issue at this age?

It's not really an issue at this age, you just might need a slightly longer first A time on a solid night of else like that -- or you might find that she needs to eat a bit more often in the day to compensate for not eating at night.  I'd keep nudging her towards independent sleep but for now you sound like you're in good shape with moving towards independent sleep.  :)

All our naps are now 30mins  ::)

So I think we are getting into a ut/ot loop. Can 30 mins be UT and OT I'm just asking as today DH put her down for her fist nap but she had only been up for 1hr and she napped 30mins then I kept her up for an hour after that an got a 31min nap. Not sure where to go with these times?

Also im finding it hard to extend her first A time, as she starts to cry around 50-55mins so when I pick her up to wander around with her to calm her she just nods off so yet again we get a short nap!
