18 week old, routine help
« on: November 06, 2014, 15:31:05 pm »
Hi there,

I'm looking for some advice for my dd
She is 18 weeks & we've just moved her to a 4hr easy.

She has a 2hr awake time but The problem is she will only nap for 45mins - 1hr, sometimes only 30mins. This then messes up the next A & S time.

If she's had a short nap she has around a 1.5hr awake time, I try and resettle her but I have a 2yo so I try for 20mins then get her up.

She's been waking at around 5am so I feed her but sometimes she won't go back to sleep from then so is up for the day  ???

Any ideas to make her day run more smoothly. (My 2yo went by the book so this is all new)
Hope that makes sense x

Hi there! Well, this is prime time for short naps, there is a lot to be said for just muddling through until 6 months or so. However, could you post a typical day to see if any adjustments need to be made?

Aah, it is an awkward time! I am sorry for the delay in my response. :(  Your routine looks age appropriate and, really, quite typical of this age.  How are your responding when you go in to feed at the 5:30ish feeding? I would be sure to make it very dark, quiet and night-time like. Have you tried any of these techniques for extending those naps?
How do I address habitual wakings? (wake-to-sleep and other methods)

Thanks for getting back to me.

Ok as long as there's nothing major to change I'll carry on, to be honest I have tried it all at the 5am wake up..feeding as a night feed, try & resettle, get her up! She only drank 1oz last night & seemed wide awake  ::)
I have tried wake to sleep for naps but probably not consistently enough as she woke up when I tried so reading it again will try at a different time in the nap. Hopefully naps will get longer soon. X
