Waking earlier and shorter naps
« on: November 20, 2014, 11:47:30 am »
My 17 mo los schedule is usually the same everyday but he's starting to wake earlier in morning and his naps are shorter and I can't figure out why. His normal routine is this:

730 wake
1230-2/230 usually 1.5-2 hr nap
730 bedtime

Sometimes he does a later nap at 1 but he will only sleep until 230. Lately he's waking early 645, 640, 630 it's get earlier every day and it has been months since he's up before 7 so it's off for him. His naps are only about 1 hr 15-20 mins and he's getting super cranky in the afternoon and he stands at the bottom of the stairs looking to go up for bath even earlier. Then he climbs out of tub and we just put on pjs have a little cup of milk and he goes into crib. Yesterdsy he was asleep by 710 which is also earlier for him. What can be going on snd what should I try to get him back on schedule? Thanks

It may simply be that he's getting enough sleep at night but still needs a little nap to see him through during the day.  At 2yrs old, my nephew seldom took his afternoon nap but he had serious FOMO.  Could it be teeth?  A developmental milestone?

I was thinking maybe A times need to be spaced out differently. I know they say the 1 hr 20 min nap can be ot. Although I think his sleep cycle is 40 mins which is why on occasion i get a 40 min nap or a 1 hr 20 min or a 2 hr. He seems to do an 11.5 hr night with a 1 hr 20-30 min nap and a 12.5 hr day. He's drooling a lot and has a rash on his cheeks. Is it too soon for 2 yr molars ?

I suppose molars are a possibility - or something like Hand, Foot & Mouth? DD3 had it recently and all she got was the rash by her mouth, nowhere else really.

We were on the same routine as you except nap was from 2pm-3.30 pm and BT 7.45 with an 11.5hr sttn. Now we're getting earlier and earlier wake ups,  later and shorter nap and nw's!!

Besides maye tweaking the nap by capping, sometimes there is really is nothing to do and no rhyme or reason to their sleep (or lack there of!).
