Milk seems to be coming in on the left side. I'm pumping every 4 hrs currently as I'm worried about doing too much and getting engorged (I only has surgery in January so relatively fresh scars to think about  :-\).

Right side is doing nothing. Producing only a drop or so, and the pump is splitting the skin  >:(. Radiotherapy skin is very fragile, so I assume that is why. I doubt it will produce and am thinking about stopping pumping it, but then wonder if I should try a bit harder  :-\.

I'm managing 5ml off the other side now  :).

Wow that's amazing Liz, you really are a super star to give this a go. I have not been through half of your experiences and I'm not sure I could keep going - how brilliant you've managed to yield so much from that one side. There are many mums who manage to feed one sided. If you are able to keep going and feel able to then it sounds like you are doing a fabulous job. Here to support you xxx

Liz,

I have hypoplastic breasts (which I'm sure you know, means that I have undeveloped / underdeveloped breast tissue).  With Matthew I struggled to breastfeed with him, but with the right support I was able to, but only one side truly produced milk, the other side tried but frankly was pathetic ;)

When I had Andrew, I didnt try to alternate feeding sides as suggested and which led to Matthew being borderline 'failure to thrive'.

I think what I'm saying is, I managed to bf pretty much one-sided (whilst trying to stimulate the other side) but I hadnt had surgery which may have affected breast tissue.  I think that if you continue with trying to get the fragile breast going, that you could end up with further problems down the line..  If one side is producing, could you use that side to prevent getting your other side sore.

Is there a specialist bf-counsellor who can advise you on this?

Lots of Hugs
Alex

Well done!!  As you say, the radiotherapy breast is rather traumatised.  It is trying its best.  Can you put some lanolin and massage it gently to give it some TLC before and after pumping?   Lots of vibes for you xx

Cheering you on Liz.
I've had no surgery but found BF and pumping incredibly difficult, painful and heartbreaking. Every drop you produce is a drop of gold, well done!!
Are you managing to freeze it or take it in to him??

Well done Liz!!!!  Agree with Alex, if you can find a specialist to speak to, that can only help.  It's AMAZING that you're making milk for him.  Woo hoo!  :D

Hmmmm. I've got 2 wedges of redness on my breast. Tenderness is in a more engorged rather than excessive pain way. I think my milk may have come in but not draining well ? Severed ducts inside.

What next?? Express more often? That is what the breastfeeding nurses suggested.

I don't want mastitis!!!
