5-8 min feeds at 2 weeks?
« on: December 12, 2014, 02:36:34 am »
This is my 4th lo and I haven't ever had a baby so disinterested in nursing. He was almost ten lbs at birth and so could just be really efficient, I guess, and he definitely has enough wet/dirty diapers, so I'm not worried that he's starving... He's just not super into bfing! He doesn't latch for very long - I tracked and timed his whole schedule today and the majority of his feedings were only 5 min - but he's not fussing or falling asleep he just loses interest.

Usually I will burp him and try to put him back on, sometimes this helps and he'll re-latch for a minute, but usually he'll just look at me.

Any words of wisdom?

Maybe he's just done and super efficient, as you said? Lucky you! Nursing sessions in the first month were looooong over here. And as long as diaper output is good and he is active, I don't think you have any reason to worry

My DD1 was like this and she was not even a big baby, just had better things to do than bf I guess (she still eats fast lol!).

We had similar story but DS wasn't gaining weight. If that happens to you and he is still 5-8min on the breast I would try offering second breast. It helped at this home:)!
