Nw after one sleep cycle
« on: December 18, 2014, 09:21:22 am »
My 14 week old daughter has just started waking after one sleep cycle every night. Last night we let her mantra cry for 25 mins and she went bavk to sleep. Not so tonight- got increasingly angrier until I'm feeding again after 2hra after last feed.

Any ideas why this has just started, and what I can do to stop it? Cheers

Thanks :)

We are aiming for
E7am
S 8:40

E10:15
S 11:55

E 1:30
S 3:10

E4:45/5
Bath
E 6:30
S 7pm

D/f 10:30
At least one night feed- tonight will be two as it's 2:30
And I'm feeding now, she won't make it til 7.

A time is long before bed and as with all naps it's hard to get a decent length...yesterday's naps were 45 mins, 2hrs and 1hr respectively.

Would love an easy tweak...it's not so easy at the moment esp when shes gone to bed for the day then I have to re feed as per last night. Just sooo tired (but I know everyone is!) xx

Is it typical for your LO to not sleep the full nap lengths?  I'm wondering if you could post a couple of 'real' days rather than the ideal as that can often make it easier to spot issues.  The 45 minute nap first thing could be OT or UT, and then that sets off a difficult path for the rest of the day.  Do you shorten A times/bring the next nap earlier after a short nap?  If the third nap is short do you ever try a 4th catnap and slightly later bt?

S 3:05-3:35, into car for swimming lessons, s 4:00-4:45 at swimming in pram as I rocked to sleep
E 4:45
Bath e 6:25
Bed 7pm
Nw 7:45, mantra cry til 8:05, we didn't intervene
DF 10:30
Nf 3:20

E 7am
Top up feed 8:30
S 8:45-9:40, couldn't resettle

E 9:50
S 11:30-1:30 by herself in cot!!!

E 1:30
S 3:20-4:20 in pram at friends house, rocked back to sleep at 45 min mark but didn't last long

E 4:30
Bath
E 6:30
Bed 7pm (usually feeds to sleep...not ideal but it has been working until now...only at night time)
Woke 7:45, couldn't resettle self, I went in and re fed
DF 10:30
Nf 2:30 and by some miracle she made it til 7! First time ever to sleep that long after a NF so early.

So there are a few things- short naps, top up feeds, new nw after bed time...

Thanks!!!

Sadly for me this NF is getting earlier and earlier. Used to be 3:30/4 and now 2/2:30, means there will either be early start to the day or second fed before 7am :(

She's 14 weeks and a decent size.,,,what can I do to push this feed back out?

So I also fed at 5:20am, then she was awake 6:40.

Today's naps have been awful so far. Both morning and mid day nap have ended with me putting her in the maya wrap, which is something I haven't used for days as naps have been improving generally. I'm feeling really deflated- tired, anxious and teary. Christmas Day I'm having 15 ppl here and was so hopeful by her naps of recent days that it might go ok- now I'm just feeling anxious at thought of all the in laws trying to give me their advice when they see my failure.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Maybe this should be moved to easy forum as now it seems to be affecting day sleep as well? Sorry to whinge.

Hugs, you're not a failure :-* welcome to the hideousness of the four month phase, it helps to know it's normal for everything to go a bit pear-shaped right now but doesn't mean it's easy.  The wheels really fell off sleep-wise at about 15 weeks for DS but the good news is it does eventually come right again.  There is so much going on at this age - a big big developmental leap, growth spurt, short naps etc etc that sleep is almost inevitably wonky.

The main thing I would probably suggest is bring bedtime a bit earlier, I don't think that long stretch after the third nap is helping as she is probably going to bed overtired, hence the early evening wakings.  Or AP a short CN to get to BT if you can. I would roll with the feeds for now, four months or so is a typical time to pick up an extra feed.  DD slept through prior to four months then picked up a night feed until seven months.  DS slept through/one NF until the four month mark then picked up another feed and had twice per night for a couple of months.  Now back down to one as solids are getting established.

What do you think?

Thank you! Just hearing you day this is normal is helpful. We had a better night last night so I feel slightly refreshed! I can't remember how it went with my boys (probably a deliberate mind blocking!) so thank you for your encouragement and advice...I'll keep you posted. Is it unhelpful if I continue to update this page with what's going on, for a personal diary as well as advice?
