Anyone used nutramigen??
« on: December 21, 2014, 11:37:09 am »
DS is on it due to suspected CMPI. He is better on it than regular formula, but it's so thin it's easily spewed  :-[ :-X.

And since it stinks I'd rather not end up wearing it  :-X :-X.

Any feeding tips???

He's actually pretty easy to wind so I doubt it is just that  ::) ::). If I sit him on my knee he will usually squirm and release  ;).

He's 4 weeks old, so I think a bit young to thicken milk really.

Yes it stinks! And the poo has a very distinctive and quite horrific smell as well.  The first two or three months on it and DH and I both wore nose plugs to change dirty nappies!!!!!

I did not notice it was thinner than other formula though?

But DS was still a bit of a spitter even when the MSPI  was under control, it was not reflux or anything other than "baby spitting up" iyswim, but it was disgusting.  I had loads of flannel baby sheets -- Canadian style ones, they are much better than muslins IMO as they are thicker and softer -- and I used to place one strategically to catch everything.  Flannel (the material, not "a flannel" that you use to wash your face ;) ) is nice because it is soft and it absorbs well, and yet is thick enough that the puke does not soak through if doubled.  I suppose a nice soft bath towel could work as well.

But really, that was the best for me - nothing I could do to stop him from being sick, just had to manage where it landed!

How's he doing with taking it - have you mixed it or has he accepted it?

I mixed it for 12 hrs and now he takes it  :).

Def seems better at the bottom end  ;), and yes, all babies puke  :-X.

It's rank though isn't it??

My dd couldn't drink the mix type, we went to the canned RTF and it was so thick, like paint, and that helped ALOT.

A few lovely US ladies have said that. Actually I think Thomas was better on the RTF in hospital.

But nutramigen is only in powder form. I don't think there are any rtf hypoallergenic milks  :-\.

No, there is no ready to feed Nutramigen available in the UK.

I think it might just take him some time Liz, to stop puking. Until then, cover yourself well!

Glad he is taking it and that it didn't take long.  Yes, it is disgusting. Utterly vile.   The nappies are horrific as well.

My dd was on Alimentum. Same thing, different brand, like Coke/Pepsi.  You know what's hilarious and pathetic? We recently got together with a friend who has a 3 month old, and her dd drinks Alimentum also. As nasty as that stuff was, dh and I held the baby and got weak in the knees....it just flooded us with memories, the smell....we were like OMG!

Funny what brings the memories back isn't it??!

Def covering myself well. Yuck!!!

Poo is pretty stinky hey? But far less explosive.

Swamp poo is what it is.  I had a tuxie cat that never met a food or drink she would not try.  Nutramigen she would not go near.  not sure why, it smells like rank cheese.
