Short naps….wonder week and/or immunizations
« on: January 03, 2015, 03:41:16 am »
Hi everyone. I am a new member of the forum, but have had my daughter on a 3 hour EASY since she was about 5 weeks old. Today she turned 12 weeks and we have seen some new behaviors that I am curious about. A little history: She has struggled with the 45 min nap thing on and off. Some days are great and some days are tough. For the last week she has been napping well 1.5 to 2 hours at a time. On Monday this week she got her first set of immunizations. For 48 hours she was super sleepy and fussy. Then things seemed to get a bit better for a day until last night. She woke up at 3:00 for a feeding (happens about 50% of the time. Other 50% she sleeps from about 7:00pm till 5:30am). It took me about an hour to get her back to sleep which is really rare. Then for her first nap she slept for 2 hours. I thought we were getting back on track. Oh no not so fast…..after that first nap she did 30 minute naps the rest of the day! Also really hard getting her down to sleep at night which is usually pretty rare as the bath time really gets her relaxed. Any thoughts or experiences others have had with these kinds of behaviors around week 12? Is this a wonder week thing, developmental, still immunizations…..really lost and need your ideas.

Hi and welcome to BW! :)

It's hard to know exactly what might be bothering your LO. I'm guessing probably not the immunizations at this point, as it's been several days, and you saw her come out of the initial sleepiness/fussiness. However, it's still a possibility. I think it's more related to the WW, so something developmental, a growth spurt (has she seemed hungrier?), or just a general need for an EASY adjustment.

Can you post what a typical day looks like in EASY format? Or, possibly both what a typical day looks like and what the wonky day was as well? She may be growing out of a 3hr EASY a bit and be needing to transition to a 3.5hr routine.

Thanks so much for the reply. I am thinking at this point that it is a WW. Looking at her new skills and her change in appetite and napping it makes sense to me. She is eating less at her feedings but they are bit closer together (every 2.5-2.75 hours instead of 3) bc of the napping issues and she is very hungry when she wakes so I respond to that need. Yesterday she had three 40 minute naps and one 2 hour nap. The two hour nap came after two short naps. I think she was exhausted.

Her typical EASY is very similar to that in the book with a few EASAY when she has a 45 min nap. She wakes around 7:00 and has a bedtime of 7:00ish. I will track the next few days of her EASY and then post so we can see if I am missing something…...
