Mr 2yrs 3 months is driving us batty!
« on: January 18, 2015, 06:30:31 am »
He's decided sleep is for the weak. ::)

I am pretty sure this is molar related, and possibly fear of his cot :-\ Which he has never had but Z had at this age too.

Lots of calling back, crying, wanting cuddles but always ends up going to sleep in his cot in the end because he can't sleep on/with us in the recliner anyway. Its also very hot here atm.

Routine was ...

WU 6.45-7
Nap 1.30-3
BT 7.15-7.30

Now he's fighting it till 8ish and then trying to sleep in. We have some EW of 6.15 or so then he goes back to sleep and I have to wake ::) If he does sleep in we have nap refusals and he can not do a NND yet, he can not cope (we get 3 hr long NW from OT )

I have NO idea what to do. Were trying for 3 days to give pain meds 30 mins before BT and waking him at 7 to keep him on routine but I have a feeling this won't work. :'( Any ideas/thoughts?

Hun I agree you are doing all you can re: teeth.  Do you this this is 1-0 ??? I don't think he's been HSN in the past has he?  We were well into nap dropping with J by now, all gone by 2y5m and would definitely have had BT resistance and silly nights on that routine.  If he can't do a NND yet could you try capping further?  Maybe 2-3pm and same BT, the longer A in the morning might help with tiredness at BT?

Or...move BT to 8pm? Maybe less resistance?  If he settles easier doing that it would probably confirm UT at BT then you can decide whether to accept short nights for a while if he's coping or make decision to cap nap?

Wdyt?

yeah...I thought you may say he's possibly nap dropping. Im in denial :P

Today we did this, and we will hold for 3 days and see if things settle. Otherwise ill have to come up with a different plan re nap and BT :-\

WU 7
Nap 1.30-2.40 (opps but we think he probably didn't go to sleep till 1.40 anyway)
BT 7.40

Will see how he goes DH has just walked out of his room

Well Bt was better so that is a start. He called out and dh popped his head in and had words (it's time for bed Tom etc) and he went to sleep - winning (for now)

I'm feeling sad about the nap....love my time during his nap!

Hi Sara and JessMum,
Been a while since I posted on here!!, not been totally plan sailing I assure you with E, but I am back working 5 days and just don't get time to even look vaguely presentable for it, let alone use my computer for anything other than work!!
Y time, whats that?

So fingers crossed despite all our problems with NWs E has never been an early riser, typically have to wake her around 7.20am to get her ready for childcare, and she was still haveing a two hour nap.
However for the last week she has been waking between 6-6.20am.
So her old routine was
WU c7.15am
nap 12.30-2.30 ( had to wake)
BT 7pm, settled herself pretty well in 5-10 mins of singing (Let it GOoooooo!!)

We have started cutting her nap to 1.5 hrs, results in grumpy afternoon, and then meltdowns after bath but still going to bed well by 7pm.

Just wondering what to do about the 6am starts?? just another phase!! she then struggles to get beyond 12.30 for a nap, and if I wake at 2pm is asking to go to bed about 6pm!!

Hope you are both well apart from the obvious sleep deprivation ha ha
Claire

lol, its gone with 2 kiddos :'( (hence why I love my evenings and really don't like sleep battles at BT)

So, ok night to report. He woke and resettled himself a few times, I suspect this is teething discomfort. Went in at 7 and he was awake (well popped up)
So stuck to the plan and did 1.3-2.30 and we will see what tonights BT at 7.30 brings. FX!

Claire, the EW could be her way of trying to get more A time, so UT but then tired by 12.30 because of the EW yk?
Or, it ould be teeth? We have lots of 6, 6.30 resettling when T is teething.

Hi,
Yes teeth always disturbs our nights. ( not missing those 2hr wake ups!!) only two molars to go, phew.

Well I also wondered if perhaps she was cold, so I dressed her in another layer and socks for bed.
I had to wake her at 7.20am this morning.

So it could be a coincidence and I have asked the childminder to cap her nap at 1.5 hrs so today she slept 12.40pm- 2.10pm and had to be woken.

Hopefully we get another 12hr night x
Claire

Ugh well last night was back to same antics. He was crying and saying random words, showing SA and saying he had sore hiccups and needed to vomit. I think he reflux may be back with the teething, and also me being slack about keeping him off dairy/gluten.
Ended up with
WU 7
Nap 1.30-2.30
Bt 7.30 but not asleep till 8.10
NW at 2 gave meds
I had to wake at 7.10 (all slept in!)

I'll stick with the plan tonight but give both patrol and brufen before bed. I'm also going to make sure he has no dairy and gluten at all.

Good luck Sara.
Think our issue was cold actually as we got another 7.15am wake up.

Sure there will be another phase soon though!

Well he was better last night we pulled bit forward a bit too
WU 7.10
Nap 1.30-2.30
Bt 7.-5 asleep 7.40 DH dealt with him and said he was 'less' needy but he did have to do 10 mins of cuddles after a cry before he would go into the cot.
WU 6.50

I am kinda worried his total S has dropped so much :-\

If this is 1-0 it could well be inevitable that sleep totals drop for a while, the nap will probably prevent the long night, which then makes them tired and drives the need for a nap even more.  Glad bt went a bit better though sorry he's still refluxing :(.  How's his mood?

Moods improving .. And we have the first molar ridge cut through (or I can feel the tooth edge) hallelujah!
So, I have tried to be proactive. I've called our gp and asked if he can have a month of losec on his old dose to get us through this period and she was happy to do that.
I've also pulled bt forward but the nap is only 1hr now. DH is doing GW at bt, ie holding him less and less before he goes in the cot. (He always goes in the cot awake) and things are a bit better (touch wood)
Today was
WU 7 but stirred at 6,6.20 (I think he's dozing due to teeth maybe)
Nap 1.45-3 but only because he was shattered - then wouldn't go down at 1.30
Bt 7.15 asleep by 7.30

So we will see what tonight brings. If the nap is too long we may get a EW :-\ but I'm inclined to think the problem may be more teeth with a bit of 1-0 rather thus  all 1-0 ???
