Cut the mid-day milk – how…?
« on: January 21, 2015, 10:55:32 am »
That's that, so simply... how have you done it:)? Cold turkey? What have you offer instead? How much?

With DF and mid-morning feeds, DS just did it by himself. He was less and less interested in milk during day and was happy to switch to one midday bottle. With DF he stopped taking his morning bottle, so I cut the DF. I always did it very slowly cutting 30ml every couple of days.
As we are approaching 1yo, I would like to ditch the midday milk.

Hi hun, could you try a snack like a yoghurt and a drink of milk in a cup. We just dropped it one day when we couldn't fit it in anymore.
Do u give it before/after lunch?x

Lunch is at 11:30 before the nap, than milk is on 2pm so 15-45min after his WU.
He is not a great drinker from a sippy cup. I mean he can do it (we use a normal Ikea cup which leaks:D or a 360cup not-leaking) but he never takes a lot of water. ut maybe it is water and it goes after solid meals:D.

I am just afraid.... of ditching it cold turkey. Such a chicken of me...:P

I just gave cheese, yoghurts, mashed banana and natural yoghurt and rice cakes as a snack for that time of day. Have you tried a straw cup my DS started with milk out of that and then changed back to standard sippy cup.
Just try it and see what happens you can always go back the next day to a bottle. x

I just switched the milk for a snack and drink, there was no fuss.
If you're afraid of ditching cold turkey why not prepare a milk but leave it out of sight whilst you offer the solid snack and only bring it in if he fusses for it. If that happened say 2 or 3 days running then go for a gradual wean of reducing ml per day but you could well find that he doesn't ask for it at all and your fears are just that, fears.  I often found changes were more difficult for me (due to anticipation of difficulties) than they were for DS.
I would just offer a piece of fruit, or a couple of crackers, or bread sticks, or some left over veggies a drink of water and see how he goes.
