toddler waking up crying seems scared
« on: February 02, 2015, 05:28:46 am »
Hi my daughter is 22 months and a few times recently she woken from her nap crying. Normally she'd wake and talks a bit to herself happily before we go in but she wakes screaming almost uncontrollably and she will not settle down again. This morning she did this at 4.50. She gets so ipswt she is almost sick and its like she's scared.  Does anyone know if its night terrors?  If I go into her room to try and settle her she gets more upset.

Could you post your routine for us?  Wakings like that would generally have been OT or discomfort here (molars??).  Night terrors can happen during naps but less commonly, the first part of night sleep is probably more typical.  ((Hugs))

Sorry for the delay in replying. Her routine is

Wu between 6 and 6.30
Breakfast
11:00 lunch
12.00-1.30/2 nap
Fruit Snack
4.00 dinner
6.00 fruit snack then bath
7.00 bedtime

She doesnt seem to be teething but she could be as she still has 4 teeth to come through.  Also this has happened about half a dozen times and always when she wakes. She goes to bed happy.

My bet would be on discomfort then, early mornings or upset wakings from nap would make me at least try some pain meds for a couple of days to see if it made any difference.  Routine looks good though :)
