Hi all

I'm really hoping for some advice. I'm a first time mum and my baby is 3 weeks old. I'm trying to follow EASY but I have a few questions and would be really grateful if someone could provide some guidance:

1. What do I do if my baby is still asleep when I reach the 3 hour mark? The last couple of days when this has happened I have woken him up(only in the daytime) but this is a challenge in itself and I'm not always successful! He's very difficult to wake if in a deep sleep. Some cycles he wakes up after 2-2.5 hours showing hungry cues, but other times he'll sleep for 4 hours or more if I let him. What should I do?

2. I've been letting him sleep as long as he wants at nighttime, but he wakes at different times each night which means the next day I'm on a completely different EASY schedule to the day before, I.e. Yesterday I started at 7am, today 8.15am. I'm guessing this is normal at this early stage?

3. Sometimes when I've woken him up after 3 hours in the day time he falls asleep straight after his feed. I'm guessing I should just let him do this?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi and welcome to BW! Congratulations on your new LO! :)

This level of variance in the routine is completely normal for such a tiny person.

1. I would let him rest up until about the 4 hour mark, then I would go ahead and wake him

2. Yep! Normal.

3. Yes, these tiny newborns can be so incredibly sleepy and hard to wake to feed. Is he breast of bottle fed? Maybe have a look here: Getting started - how I survived the first 3 months
