I need them to start sleeping better at night. 17mths nearly!
« on: February 21, 2015, 09:29:10 am »
That's it really. Yes they've been poorly but they've never slept well. Naps are so much better than they were

Routine which has been the same for ages
Wake 6ish
Nap 12.15ish we wake after 1.5hrs else we get even worse nights
Asleep usually by 7pm

Nights can be waking any time usually midnight ish then say 4ish for both or either. Wakings typically last at least 30mins each and we get times when they're awake from 4.30 in the morning. Like today. I'm at the end of my tether with it all.

How long has the nap been 1.5 hours Laura? We recntly had to cut back, had been at 1 hour for ages and then were getting ridiculous nw/ew. Down to 45 min now! How do you currently settle them for nw?

Ages the nap has been 1.5hrs. I guess 4mths perhaps. It's been difficult cos they've been poorly for the best part of 3wks so have had some longer naps. But they're much better now other than canines cutting. Settling at night for j has been meds and straight back to bed where eventually he'll settle himself. H was more poorly and typically after meds will end up with a cuddle put down cuddle put down until eventually he settles himself. H also has had some milk in the night but recently it wasn't helping anyway. He didn't have it last night and now he's better I'll be trying to avoid it. Did you do a 1hr 15mins nap with E or just cut it by half hr!

If they didn't share a room I could prob get away with leaving H as generally he's moaning rather than out and out crying.

Hmm yeah same room makes it tricky! I think we did drop the nap length in one go, but I am impatient like that! Do they have white noise to drown the sound of each other out? I would for sure nix the night time milk now that they are better, one less reason they have to wake & or stay awake.

Yes white noise but doesn't necessarily drown each other out. Going to try shorter nap today.

Yeah that would do it! Hopefully not ot. If they cannot handle a shorter nap would pushing bedtime a bit later be a possiblity? Or could it all be tied into nearing 18 months growth spurt/sleep regression etc? I think we are hitting that, though I swear she had a gs last month too :P

Shoot me now!
Honestly I don't know what to do with these boys. First night not too bad last night however both boys up and screaming for best part of an hour. 11.15pm j woke then woke h. Both boys finally asleep at about 12.45 and awake for the day at before 6am. At a loss.

What length of a nap was that on? How have they been now?

Ok so they're on 1hr15mins have been for most of the wk and are sleeping better at night mostly but now h is waking at the crack of dawn miserable.  Shall I try an hr nap and see? The thing is they'll fall asleep in the car or on the floor sometimes if tired.

Hmm if just H is waking I might be tempted to hold out with what you are doing (or is it possible to wake him first, without disturbing his brother??). I would suggest wake to sleep but man I wouldn't want that to end up with two of them waking accidentally! E always has a sort of a cry out right at the time dh gets up, which sometimes she wakes from - anything that could be bothering H like that?

No nothing. Mind you j woke last night at 11ish h at 2.30 and h again at 5am at which point he had a bottle and went back to sleep. I know I shouldn't be doing the btl but there's only so many 4.30am starts we can do!

Ok so another 5am wake from h although he also woke at 10ish too. I'm not sure what to do. They are cutting canines which I know won't help but...
Will stick with 1hr 15mins for a few more days? The thing is they're only getting about 10hrs sleep at night with the ew
