I read both posts about transitioning from 3Hour EASY to 4, but one had you increase all awake times by 5 minutes, and the other had you increase the first morning awake only by 15 minutes. Which do I do??

My LO will be 4mo this Friday.  We currently were doing a 3Hour EASY.  He was taking all naps in a swing (in motion) and sleeping in a pack n play in my room at night, but yesterday I moved him to his crib for naps because he was starting to have a lot of NWs.  I was thinking it might have to do with the swing.  To my surprise, he fell asleep in his crib (with the help of shh/pat) for all 4 naps (he was taking three 1.5 hour naps and one 30 min CN in the swing before yesterday).  However, he woke around 30-40 minutes from each nap.  I tried resettling each time but he wouldn't go back to sleep.  I know it might be because sleeping in his crib was new, but I also wondered if it was time to add more awake time to his day since he's close to 4mo.  He also doesn't seem to be all that hungry at 3 hours.  Also, when he slept in the swing he would wake at 30 minutes often but almost always fell back asleep because he had that constant motion to help him.

I normally would take him in his room at 1.20 hours after waking and he would be asleep in the swing by 1.30 hours or sometimes earlier.  So, this morning I extended it to taking him in his room at 1.35 hours after waking.  It took him about 10 minutes to fall asleep, so awake time was 1.45.  I wasn't planning on extending 15 min but was busy with DS1 this morning, so that's just how it worked out.  He slept 45 minutes but then woke up.  He wasn't crying so I didn't rush in there in hopes he would fall back asleep, but he never did.

What do you think is the best way to go for my LO?  I know for today I need to shorten his next awake times because he had a short nap.  But what do you think I should try tomorrow?  Any suggestions?  Thanks!!!

We'll I stuck to the same A time this morning and he napped for 2 hours!!! However, his next two naps were 45 min.  Am I supposed to only extend the first morning A time for a few days, or do that for all of them?

I usually just went 15 minutes for all naps, keeping last bits of A time very low key.  Some LOs only need 20 minutes taken off their A time after a short nap. Many LOs are doing closer to 2 hours at this age so if 45 minute naps persist, I would move A up even more. HTH!

Thanks! I'll stick to the added 15 min for all naps another day or two and see how he does. If his naps are still short maybe I'm try adding more A time.

Yes, it's been hard to judge when to try for a nap after a short nap.  I have been doing A time shorter but once he takes one short nap, I can't seem to get a longer one that day.  I guess it takes time to figure it all out. Thanks for the advice!
