Chronic OT due to illness - sleep ideas and help pls...
« on: March 06, 2015, 17:25:45 pm »
Okay, so my DS is 3.7 years.  He is currently awaiting a referral to an ENT specialist for his tonsils/adenoids. They are large and are obstructing his sleep (have been I think for a long time) but are very bad right now.  He is in a chronic state of OT/sleep deprivation as he never really gets into a nice long deep sleep.

He is sleeping anywhere from 9.5 hours to 10.5 hours/night but it is a very restless, fitful sleep.

His behavior has been very challenging (apart from being 3.5) and we are having major issue with daycare to the point I'm ready to pull him out. Major issue is around nap time - he doesn't nap (or very seldom will - despite being so tired).

Anyway, you lovely ladies suggested some lavender oil on a cloth by his bed which I'm going to try tonight and having the humidifier on as well.

So, given this situation, is there anything else I can do. When he doesn't nap (which is 80% of the time) what time should I get him into bed?  His normal wake up time is anywhere from 5:45am - 6:30 am but errs on the side of shortly before 6 am.  Which of course is CLASSIC OT.

Should I be aiming for an EBT? Or keep it at 7:30 where it's been for a while.

Not much I can do about the quality of his sleep until we see the ENT and hopefully get these tonsils out.

Thoughts?

I'd try 6.30pm BT I think, if he's not napping EBT really the only option for catching up sleep xx

I'd definitely go with EBT! We used to do super EBT with LJ at times and people were always amazed at how she went down then and slept through until the morning. And I'm talking 5pm, occasionally sooner. Logistics were hard with dinner, but was always worth it when she'd caught up - until the next it bout lol xxx

Hugs, what time did you start trying for bed?  I agree if 6.30 was already too late go earlier, I've done 5pm once or twice with DD and always been glad I did x

Thanks! We actually have M scheduled for surgery to remove his tonsils/adenoids on June 8th. He is still snoring/snorting/coughing during sleep so I'm so glad he's getting them out.
Sleep deprivation sucks...
