we had the activity table as well and my boys really liked it. the noise was not too loud, and they did the crazy open shut stuff, but they liked the music and learning colors etc through it.
9 and 6, oh boy!

Thanks both of you:) Do you'll have water/sand tables as well?

No water or sand table here.
He played with toys in the bath, use a water table at toddler group and when big enough stood on a chair at the kitchen sink for water play.  Sand he played in the sand pit at toddler group. We did make a stone tray for our roof terrace though, big tub filled with pebbles, gardening tools, trucks and diggers, shiny coloured treasure stone to be found or dug up etc, little wheel barrow he could fill with stones and walk around the terrace with. That was fun.

Sounds lovely! Do we have these kinds of activity ideas anywhere? I've gone through one thread for 1 yo activities but I really want to do more sensorial stuff with her

There's this
Activities for developing fine motor skills
but it's not not really sensory stuff.  There are heaps of parenting blogs with sensory ideas though like The Imagination Tree and Happy Hooligans.  The only thing I'd say is browse the websites with caution - they can really make you feel inferior if you are not setting up all this amazing stuff every day. Make a pact with yourself that you will not feel guilt.
The main thing LOs need is attention, conversation and access to the everyday things around them (so long as they are safe).

There have been lots of sensory play threads in the past, I wonder if a browse through the board, may come up with a lot of ideas?

This is a nice sticky
Cycle of Activity-Help Build Independent Playtime
it says age 16 months to 3 years but I posted that I'd been doing similar from a much younger age (under 1yo I think) and at the time of posting DS was 14 months. So there isn't a need to wait.

Very good point. They do make me feel like I need to be doing a lot more

I love the post about encouraging independent play. Eris is great that way. And imagination tree is lovely with ideas.

I am feeling like we aren't doing enough y/k? The days just fly by and not much is happening. yesterday on FB, a mom in my wonder weeks group had posted such a lovely activity she had got together for 'the world of categories' leap - she had collected different kinds of leaves, flowers and plants and arranged them for the baby to touch/feel, play with. So simple and so nice.

Haha Fleur, I have to try hard not to feel inferior around you :P Well said, creations :)

Sorry, nothing useful to add really, both sets of grandparents independently bought the same water/sand table and pull-along truck, so DS has enjoyed playing with those in their gardens, but not until around 2yo I think; we have nowhere to put that sort of thing so they've had to put up with bark clippings in the park (both loved these, well DD has just got into it!) and whatever goes on in groups. I'm sure you've seen cornflour gloop and baby oil + flour mix? And of course all that blw counts :)

Oh no they're two different things - cornflour + water; and flour + baby oil :)
