« on: March 18, 2015, 14:02:07 pm »
8 month old who still not consistently sleeping through
We get long night wakings with traditional easy and only ever get 11 hr nights.possibly Lsn

My problem is waking 40 mins into afternoon nap.at the moment if I do 35 min am nap 2 hr afternoon bed by 7 I can get an 11 hr night with no night wakings.

I have brought am nap down to 35 mins as was getting 2 hr night wakings with 45 mins.It doesn't matter what time I put him down for his 2 nd nap I get a wake up 40mins in I can resettle sometimes and not others. If I resettle usually get full 2 hrs.
At the moment doing

6 am wake up
9:25 nap 35 mins
12:45 nap
7:00 bed
I can't seem to work out if he is over or under tired at 40 mins he is an idependent sleeper again but still won't settle himself from this wu.

Anyone any advice. Been following jessmum thread as sounds similar.

I'm going with OT. At 8 months, he would still need at least 2 hours of day sleep but he is getting little over an hour. Are you sure your night waking is due to too much day sleep and not the other way around?

What I would suggest is to increase your A time before the pm nap. At 8 months, 3.5ish..maybe even more..would be more appropriate. My DD was doing 3.45 at that time. His would be less after the short am nap but still definitely more than the 2.45 A he is doing now. Increasing your A should hopefully lengthen that nap.

Hope that helps

Thanks sorry just re read my post it doesn't make sense. His am nap is 35 mins his afternoon nap is 2 hrs, total day sleep 2hrs 35 mins and total night sleep is always 11 hrs regardless of bedtime.
Just can't get a time between am and pm nap correct,he wakes at 40 mins into the pm nap. Today was a good day gave him 2hr 45 mins after 1st nap still woke 40 mins in crying and went back to sleep in minutes but I had to help him.

Just popping in - as you know I've tried short am, long pm to death ::) I agree with Fleur about OT overall, though the 40 minute wakings could be UT or OT.  I would try pushing the second nap a touch later as Fleur suggested - if that makes things worse, not better then you could always bring it earlier or go back to a longer first nap.  If LO has recently started moving more (common around this age) then he may well need more sleep than previously.

FWIW although I was fairly convinced my DS was an 11h night type of guy, I'm actually coming round to thinking those are OT nights here.  At least, he never seems really fully refreshed by them and would be tired and whining in the mornings especially.

Thanks, an 11 hr night gives us a happy boy who wakes and chats to himself for 30 mins, then has no problem making it until after 9 for first nap. He is always happy when woken or wakes from naps just think it's his nature but makes it hard to tell if tired or not. I have tried shortening time between naps as assumed the 40 min wake was overtiredness, never thought to push it. Will try this tomorrow.

Pushed second nap to 1 o'clock and found he didn't wake up at the 40 min point but only slept for 1hr 45 mins, will see how the night goes.
