Night terrors or developmental?
« on: April 16, 2015, 01:10:59 am »
So you guys have always managed to help our routine tweaks when needed so I am back. Lo is 20 months, been on one nap since about 12 months after a month or two battle, and was in a great place with sleep. He used to do
Wu  7-7.30 (although he will quite happily stay in his cot awake so maybe earlier)
Nap 1230-1500/1530- sometimes I will need to wake him.
Bedtime 1900 into bath then stories and bed. He has self settled for a long time...has no props but has a lovey.

The 18 month sleep regression didn't really hit so I assumed we had gotten off lightly. He had six teeth come through which he seemed to barely notice either. Then the clock went forward and instead of sleeping til 7-730 he started waking at 6.30 chatting happily.  I didn't go to him til 7 though.  Even that was okay and then we went on holiday.  Which is where we are now. His nights are awful. He slept well on night one but we are now on night six.
The first day we took a long drive to get to where we are staying and he only napped for 45 mins plus the excitement of holiday etc he woke up literally ever hr to the minute. ...like something was stopping him getting into a deep sleep. He didn't need us but whimpered/cried a few mind each time. So from 2200-0300 this happened til I gave milk and calpol then he slept til 8.

The next night he fought the ebt and didn't crash til 2200 but slept til 8 (we are in France so an hr ahead of UK do this would be his usual 7 wu). Then the last two nights he has gone down a dream but between 2230 & 0030 had what I think are night terrors. Tonight was awful...If I spoke or touched him it just seemed to make it worse.

We decided that routine was still important on holiday(we have also kept to English times so although everything seems an hr later that's why) so the few days I have just described in easy format are.

Day 1 with the traveling
Wu....8 (french time so 7 uk)
Nap in car 1300-1345 (12-1245uk)
BT 1930  (so 6.30 equivalent but seemed tired )
went to sleep easily but woke from 2200-0300 every hr.
Day2
Wu 8 (7 in uk)
Nap 1330-1645 (1230-1545 UK )
Ebt 1900 (1800 uk) -he had gone slightly hyper and I was concerned he was overtired but in hindsight I think he was ut and then ot as he fought til nearly ten. He fell asleep on me at nine but each time I put him down he woke.

Sttn

day three
Wu 8.30 (7.30 uk)
nap 1330-1540 (1230-1440 UK. ...He woke himself)
BT bath 8 (7 uk ) down by 8.30 (7.30uk) happily chatting for ten mins then asleep.

2330...nw crying but not awake. Would let me cuddle him back in bed by 2345.

Slept til wu

day four woke up at 0830 we woke him but was stiring
nap 1330-1600 we woke him
BT 2000 bath down at 2030 silence from second he went down
Then at 2315,0007 and 0125 woke but cried briefly settled back him self....0125 I had to go to him he was asleep but very upset. Flinging himself about in his cot anytime I touched him or spoke he would get worse....

I appreciate that it's a strange environment but he has never reacted like this. Is there anything routine wise that u would tweak to try and minimise the disruption .

We are home on Monday so I am hoping it all settles on our return but wondered if this could be a belated 18 month regression and it just happens we are away?

sorry for the essay but thought it may help if you have all the information.

Thanks in advance

Oh and we medicated at bedtime just in case on nights 3 and 4 just in case it was pain waking him. Didn't seem to make any difference. To settle him tonight  at 0125 after the night terror I left a cup of milk in his cot which he drank once he calmed down. We are now an great post him settling and he hasn't woken yet!!

So this morning was a wake up a 0800 (7 uk)and he has just had the mother of all meltdowns resulting to me putting him for his nap now at only  1200 (11 uk) but he was never going to get to lunch let alone 1330 (1230 uk).
 Addition.....
okay so he slept til 1420 so did 2 hrs 20 mind and went down at 2030 no issue so we shall see what the night holds

so yesterday's easy
Wu . ..0800 (7 uk)
Nap 1200-1420 (11-1320 UK )he woke himself up
Bedtime bath at 2000 (7uk) down at 2030 (7.30 uk )...not a peep
Wake up 0030 (2330 uk) stirred but settled but was then up from 0130 very upset...seemed awake and knew I was there but wouldn't calm down even with cuddles etc.. 0200 still very upset so tried nurofen in a cup of milk as he wouldn't take it any other way. Took til 0245 to go back
We woke him up at 0845

Has anyone got any ideas please. This is so out of character
