Random waking times have had enough!
« on: June 03, 2015, 19:02:49 pm »
Hi my DS was a good night sleeper for me anyway ever since he was born he had the same wake time in the night every night 10pm, 1am, 4am. Then after a month old it dropped to just 1am and 4am. At around 3 and a half months and this only happened a few times, he was waking at around 2 and sleeping through till 7. I was ecstatic especially because his day time naps are really short I couldn't wait till night time when he was so predictable and I could get some sleep! Then just before 4 months he was waking randomly sometimes every hour at the moment its around 10pm/11pm, 1pm, 2/3pm after this usually sleeps till 6 when my alarm goes off. Im still dealing with short naps but it seems to be going really well but the night times I cant get a hang of. He is 6 months and BF our routine goes a little like this but it changes because of short naps:

Also Ive been waking him at 6 so we can have a consistent morning wake time is this ok or should I let him sleep till he wants?

A 6:00
E 7:00 sometimes a little before nap
Solids - 8:30
S - 9:45
A - 10:45 this changes he was sleeping usually an hour but yesterday it was nearly 2 hours since extending A time a little further
E - 11:00
Solids - 12:30
S - 2:00
A - 2:30/3:00
E - 3:00
Solids - 5:00
BT - 7:00 ( this is when he is asleep I start routine at 6:30)

I know hes wake time before bed is long Im working on that it doesn't always happen sometimes if he wakes early second nap Ill put him down for a cat nap. It never mattered if he had cat naps or if I managed to extend one or 2 naps he would sleep and wake the same times.

Also I was feeding every time he was waking I thought it was a grothsurt because that's what someone told me then after that I couldn't get him back to sleep without feeding.

What happens when he wakes? How do you settle him?

Lately Ive been doing shush/pat pat then picking up till he stops then shush/pat again. I haven't been really successful at PU/PD he just arches his back and screams, if that doesn't work I feed him. The last couple of nights I've only feed him twice when he woke and last night I ended up giving him a dummy I was just so tired.

Why is he awake so long before the first nap? That's a long A time for just 6 months, I think those 1h naps are probably OT....he's getting fairly low sleep amounts for his age, 11h broken at night plus 1.5-2h in the day.  I'd be looking at not waking in morning until 7am (allow for 12h night) and pull those A times back a bit if it were me, as far as to 3h or so.

Hi his wake time used to 1hr 45 and he would wake at 40 minutes Ive gradually lengthened till I was getting a longer nap Ive posted on another forum for short naps Anyone used baby sleep consultants? .

So sometimes he will wake 7, 6:30 or 6 so should I just leave him and let him wake when he wants I just thought it would be better if im putting him down the same time everday

Is he an independent sleeper or do you have to shush pat him all the way to sleep?

It is a lot - just wondering what could be up. I'd work on him going back to sleep independently at night as well as at bedtime/naps - it is perfectly possible to have a prop only for overnight and not at any other time. (both mine have done this). How many milk feeds is he having in a day?

He has about 4 bf and 2 top ups. He goes to sleep by himself at night and for naps. I was thinking maybe a cuski could help, if he had something to hold that smelt like me.

^^ I see that he's sleeping independently at night and for naps, but we just need to be mindful that is happening for night time wakings too.

I went to df last night but he was aready awake at 10 think i may have woken him when i went up earlier. I feed him at every waking 10,1,5. Its quite hard to settle him if its been 3 hours since his last feed at 1 i tried to keep waking him so that he would eat more and he seemed to sleep longer 4 hrs and then he might of been cold the temp droped quite low last night
