What about this EASY? Switch to 4-hour?
« on: June 12, 2015, 16:24:19 pm »
My almost 3-month old is almost 14 pounds, doesn't eat between 8PM- 655AM, but wakes up early and just hangs out in her crib. I want her to sleep more and would switch to 4-hour EASY, increasing her A time and fewer, longer naps. What do you think?
We don't do dream feeds because 1) it led to more waking and 2) I go to bed at 9PM I'd have to wake up to do it and that's not helpful. But she does cluster feed:
Wake up: 6AM
E:7- doesn't eat for long, I try again around 750 since she didn't eat all night
A
S:8:30 or 9AM if we want to push it
E: 10AM

S: 1130- 12:40, tosses and yells in crib. We get her up

S: 230-4
E: 4

E: 5

S: occasional cat nap if she woke up early from an earlier nap
E: 6- 645
A: 7 pm bath
E: 710-750
A: get sleep sack on
S: 8- 550/6AM

*I would add, she always wakes up early from the 1130-1 nap.
*She easily goes down at 9AM instead of 830
*We have to wake her at 10AM
*I got the impression from BWSAYP book that if easy is too short baby won't sleep as long at night/ have more frequent  nw at 4- months. Our baby is the size of 4-month old
* would longer EASY help lessen cluster feeds?

I think actually the reason you are having a short night is over tiredness.  Your A times are very long for a 3 month old, typical would only be 1h20-30, and you have a long day.  So with a 6am WU a typical day would be feeds at 6/9/12/3/6 with naps at 7.30/10.30/1.30/4.30 (shorter nap) and bed at 6/6.30pm.  I'm not sure moving to a 4h EASY will be the right step just now.  It looks like you have counted the 1h30 A time from the start of each feed, whereas in fact it is everything eyes open to eyes closed.  I suspect if you shorten up some of those A times and bring BT earlier you may get a better nights sleep :)
