Hi everyone,

our 9 month old DS started to wake earlier and earlier in the morning. About a month or so ago he was still waking up at around 7, but has since started to wake earlier by 15 minutes every couple of days so we're now at 4:15 in the morning which is proving to be very exhausting for us. And he wakes up full of energy with a smile on his face all ready to play.

He's on two naps a day with awake time of 3h30 - 4h and has usually two ok naps of about an 1h / 1h15. His bedtime is usually around 7 PM and he falls asleep quite fast. We tried increasing A-time, decreasing A-time, putting him to bed later that 7, earlier that 7 and it's always the same.

We're starting to get pretty desperate so any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS: I'm adding our schedule when he was still waking up at 5AM:

W: 5AM
S: 8:30AM

W: 10AM
S: 2PM

W: 3:30PM
S: 7:15PM

What do you do when he wakes happy at 4.15am? How have you tried to get him back to sleep? Not sure where in the world you are but here it is getting light already at that time, is his bedroom totally dark? No outside sounds disturbing him?

Hi Anna,

yes we tried getting him back to sleep, and we succeed maybe once in 5 tries. Even when he falls back to sleep it's really light sleep. The room is darkened and we're in a very quiet street and at 4 in the morning, there are no sounds.

So is he crying? Can you feed him back to sleep? Did you try wake to sleep?

Actually he's happy and playful and if we leave him alone will start to talk to himself and play in the crib. We tried feeding him back to sleep but usually it doesn't work. What he does is that he start to move a lot in the sleep 30-40 minutes before he wakes up. We did not try wake to sleep as waking up extra 30 minutes earlier at this stage seems impossible to us :)

Ok well I think the first thing to try then is to move his morning nap later, so like 9.30. So his long A time is in the morning instead of before bedtime.

Thanks, we'll try that, the reason for a shorter A-time is that he gets really sleepy after 3h:30 in the morning due to the shorter night sleep.
