Here we go again!.. To nap or not to nap
« on: June 22, 2015, 17:59:53 pm »
We had 2+ weeks of no naps then last week he napped every day! Would cry for a few mins though. Today we are back to no nap! I just can't quite figure it out!?

Just popping in from previous thread - LO isn't yet two (I don't think?) and it sounded like it could well be a developmental nap refusal +/- needing a later nap for LO to go down. Thanks for a new set of eyes Anna and sorry you're still struggling Chloe x

What's a developmental nap refusal? Lol I had tried the later nap and that's when I was getting the refusal he was getting a second wind so I went back to a 1 o'clock nap and that's when he started napping again so I'm reluctant to push it back later just yet.

Wake around 7/730 nap 1-2/230 bedtime 730/8 depending how long/late his nap was and when he woke in morning. He's going to be 2 next week.

So what's the question, really? Can you put him in his cot at nap time each day, nd let him nap if he wants to and have quiet time if not? It gives you a break that way even if he doesn't sleep, and the quiet time is somewhat restorative than more stimulating activity.

My DD dropped her nap at 26 months without ever having been lower than usual sleep needs - so just to point out that may be a possibility.

It's just odd to me to be so sporadic with the naps. As soon as i think he's dropping them he naps for a week straight and then he doesn't. Lol. No he won't do quiet time in crib just cries and calls for me. He went ti bed at 630 tonight and also cried for a few mins before passing out.

No nap again today! He went to bed at 640 last night after having no nap yesterday he woke at 7 this morning had an active morning lunch and up for nap at 1. He seemed tired earlier on. Cried for a minute when I put him down for nap then he was just talking in crib. I just cant tell if I should try earlier nap or later. The last time the nnds were happening I tried later nap for 2 weeks and it didn't work. I finally went back to early nap of 12/1230 after so many days with no nap and it worked for a while.

How is his mood in the afternoon if he doesn't nap?

He did finally fall asleep around 115!! I was surprised because he was up talking. It's 240 now think I'll need to wake him to keep 8 bedtime? His mood is usually ok just tired and out of it clumsy etc cries at bedtime probably because he's ot.

He woke from nap at 245 so 1.5 nap but he's still up in his crib rolling around for 40 mins now. He was up at 7 today so it was a little over 6 hrs A time this morning and 6 tonight. That's a long day almost 14 hours with a 1.5 hour nap! I don't like putting him to bed past 8 because it almost always takes him so much longer to fall asleep odd enough. So I'm at a loss. Maybe if I cut the nap to 1 hour and woke him at 215? Just want to make sure he's getting enough sleep/A time for a 2 yr old.

You can cut the nap for sure. As for the 'enough sleep', it varies so much at this age. Some have dropped their nap and getting like 11hrs sleep in 24, others are still doing long naps and Nights and getting like 14 hrs. I guess the acid test is, if his mood is ok (mostly) and his night sleep is ok (mostly) then he's getting enough ;)

He slept until almost 745 today being that it took him 40 mins to fall asleep last night and didn't pass out until 840! Today was no nap we were out and about was hoping maybe he would fall asleep in car but he just never does. I couldn't get him to bed early at 630 like I usually do when there's no nap and put him in at 715 he cried for a bit think it was just too long of a day but his mood was pretty good all day figuring.
