7 week old sleep question
« on: June 24, 2015, 18:02:17 pm »
My 7 week old is fighting naps like crazy. After an hour of awake time we go into her room and do a wind down of dark room, white noise and swaddle and that's when she loses it. I can't even get her calm enough to get her drowsy. I can get her to sleep in my arms but never in her rock n play. Ssh pat just gets her riled up even more. Any advice?

Hi there and congratulations on your LO.

At 7 weeks naps can be very hard work. If the can get one nap a day in the crib at this age you're doing well!  The first one is often a good one to aim for as most LOs find that the easiest one to settle for.

If we concentrate on that first nap, how long has she been awake for when you put her down for that nap?  Has she recently been fed?

I take her to her room after an hour to start to settle her down. It's about 1 hr 10-20 min total awake time. I actually bumped up her awake time a bit and she's getting easier to settle so I think she was just under tired. Now to work on napping longer 😉

If increasing her A time a bit helped her settle then it's possible another little A push  (10 minutes?) will help with the nap length.  It's all still very unpredictable at this age though - short naps are often developmental and are very common. I'd just keep any changes slow and gentle and keep observing cos things can change quickly!  :)
