Dream Feed Question
« on: June 26, 2015, 19:18:33 pm »
My 7 wo DS will accept a bottle at a dream feed and take some but usually only 1-1.5 ounces instead of the typical 3.0-3.5 ounces he usually eats. I always wait 3 hours after his last feed at 10-11 to attempt the dream feed. Any thoughts or is this normal?

Hi there,

I'm not sure if I'm reading this right, are you doing the DF between 10 & 11pm? Or three hours after that?

If the first timing then it is the right timeframe as recommended by Tracy. My DD always took a full feed at this time, but I think the key thing is does it affect his sleep, or extend it further than if you didn't do the DF. If he is still waking at the same time for his next feed it may not be worth continuing, but it's hard to tell if you've only be doing it for a short while. Sometimes it takes a while for them to get used to it.
How long have you been offering a DF?

Yes, the df occurs at 10-11. I'm not sure if it extends his sleep. He usually does not wake for a feed until 3-4 and goes down at 7-8. Should I not offer it for a few nights and see what happens?

I have been offering it since about 3-4 weeks but he only accepted a few times the first 2 weeks. I did not introduce a bottle until about 5-6 weeks since he is bf.

I would say if he's still waking at 3/4am it may not really be helping to do a DF. Is this the only feed you offer a bottle? Have you tried doing a BF DF? I know this is possibly harder but I do know of others here and IRL who have managed.

Last night I did not put him down until 9:15...we were at my parents. He still slept until 3:40 so I'm thinking the dream feed does not make a real difference...thoughts? I have tried to bf but he currently has a lip tie and his latch is weak even when awake. He is being assessed for the lip tie Thursday. Thanks

It might be that it doesn't make quite enough difference.. How do you feel about it?
