day naps are sometimes too long?
« on: June 30, 2015, 09:36:09 am »
Hello everyone,
My wonderful baby girl is 13 weeks old (though she was actually born 2 weeks before time, so maybe shes considered as 11 weeks old, i am not sure).
she just started sleeping a bit better during the day - I had a hard time helping her sleep after she plays until recently and even when she slept it was max for 40-50 minutes and then she woke up crying. I found it again very hard helping her get back to sleep again.
It has gotten a bit better lately - I think I became a bit more calm myself, and started to see the sleepy signs of my baby (and shes grown up a bit too :)). I am still working on helping her better but it's a process like everything , i understand that.
my question is - my baby can sometimes take a long or even very long nap during the day - for example yesterday her morning nap was 2 hours (with waking up in middle) and her second nap (around 11:30) was around 3 hours (no waking up in middle). today her morning nap was 1.5 hour (with waking up in middle). she also takes a short nap around 5-6
I do not know if i should wake her or not - i think her body knows what it needs - but i am not sure to be honest and i don't want this to mess up the day routine we have - though i am not very strict, i do not like to look at the watch all the time and count hours - yet again, I want to help my baby sleep well and be happy and calm.
Just so you know about the night - she eats (from bottle) around 18:30-19:30 (depends on how much she sleeps during day, so the feed time can shift), then takes a bath and goes to sleep until around between 3:00-4:30 AM (this changes) - then she sleeps again for about 3.5 hours until morning.
I do not dream feed.
Also, my baby is mostly a happy calm baby :) she smiles a lot and plays during play time - she can fuss a bit before i put her to sleep anytime during day (but usually not really crying, just sometimes) gets "unquiet" during the afternoon (after the short nap) and then she can cry a bit, and sometimes cries a lot after bath time (which she loves).
I think I wrote too much... thank you for reading and for any advice :)

Hi Shira,
welcome to the boards :) don't ever worry about writing too much, lots of information is what we need to be able to discuss your question.

Since she's sleeping ok at night, and not waking for feeds or to play (!), then it sounds like she's doing very well during the day time.  I would expect that the 3 hour nap would be exceptional - I wouldn't expect that every day.  1.5-2 hours is also really great for a nap.  At this age, we'd look for an average of two 1.5-2 hour naps and a cat nap  during the day, so sounds like she's fine.

thank you for your reply weaver :)
actually she does wake up for feed once - like i wrote, it can be between 3 AM to 4:30 AM - Just pointing this out since maybe that would make a difference to your answer?

also, the long nap in the afternoon - it isn't always like that so long, but not very exceptional to be honest - so if it is something that repeats itself, maybe not everyday but couple times a week, should I "do something" about it?

thanks again!
