Wake a sleeping baby?
« on: July 07, 2015, 14:57:56 pm »
Hi there,

My LO is 4 months old. She is a great sleeper in the night, but naps are sometimes too short; could range from 30-2 hours. Usually around 40 minutes - the end of the sleep cycle. There have been times where she has woken up from a nap and put herself back to sleep. She then usually sleeps past her feed time, and I usually wake her to feed.

Should I let her sleep? Unfortunately, I'm sort of a textbook mom and less go with the flow. I'm not sure what to do in this case.

Please let me know your thoughts.

Thanks,
Pilar

I would usually let my LOs sleep past feed time, within reason.  If I was getting increased NWs due to hunger I might not have so much, but generally if nights were OK (as OK as they can be with a 4 month old), I left well alone.  I'd certainly let mine sleep half an hour past a feed time - or even an hour if it worked out that way.  Occasionally it meant a full feed became a half feed cos they got squished together but that didn't usually matter too much as a one off :)

I look at the nap as a whole, so at his age (3.5m) I don't let him nap more than 2h each EASY cycle. So if your DD is doing about 2h A time and then naps for about 2h then you get to the "right" length of EASY for her age.
