6 mo routine - Short afternoon nap??
« on: July 10, 2015, 12:37:48 pm »
Hi everyone! I'm posting about my son's schedule. He just turned 6 months and i've tried various awake time trying to extend his afternoon nap (wich is ALWAYS between 30 to 45 min) He goes down to sleep awake all the time without much fussing, except for bedtime... let's say he's very drowsy-sleepy at BT  ;)

E 6:30
A
S 8:30 to 10:00 (sometimes he can sleep up to 2-1/2 hours! but most of the time he wakes up around 30 min, cries or babbles 10 min then go back to sleep)
E 10:30
A
E 12:15 (top up before nap time)
S 12:45 (sleeps for max. 45 min.)
A 13:30
E 15:30 (solids around 4:30)
A
E 17:45
S 18:00

So. Even if I try to make him sleep after this afternoon nap, he simply wont. In the crib, in the car or in the pram! Instead we do an EBT and he STTN (wakes up 2 to 3 times because he rolls over)

Any advice on timing of the afternoon nap?
Sometimes I have to put him to sleep after 2-1/2 hours of awake time and sometimes he's up to 3. It always ends up in the same result. I can't go in trying to soothe him back to sleep, as soon as he sees someone it's game over. Sometimes he wakes happy babbling and cooing, and sometimes wakes up crying.

I know he's still tired as he's generally very fussy for the rest of the afternoon and hard to please.

Please help!!

Hi hun:) A few suggestions after looking at your routine. Firstly, his A times need a push. 2 hours is very less at this age and nap 1 is too early as a result. At 6 months, A times are more around 3 hours (we were doing 3.20). This should also help with nap 2. I always found DD more sensitive to A times with the pm nap and I needed to get it right in order to get a proper sized nap. So you can slowly add 10-15 minutes every few days and push out his A times.

Secondly, on days when the pm nap is short/ ends too early, a CN would be necessary in order to prevent OT. After a short nap, I wouldn't reduce A too much -- just 10/15 minutes should do the trick

Hope that helps

Hi, my boy can't go more than 2 hours at first awake time. He stares, yawn and rub his eyes fussing and falls asleep like a log! I tried to keep him awake longer but it results in a short nap of 45 min. I'm fine with that timing.

I will try to keep him awake longer than 3 hours for afternoon nap!
Thank you
