Super long nap at 6.5mo
« on: July 10, 2015, 20:12:45 pm »
Anyone else's 6-7mo like(d) one very long nap?

DD will often sleep 3-3.5hrs in the morning and then either just have a 30-60min CN in the afternoon or even stay awake until BT. She's very OT at BT when she skips the CN though. I always try for it but sometimes if we are out she doesn't fall asleep in the car or buggy.

Today she was up at 7.15am napped 10.10-13.10 and BT 7pm. She skipped the afternoon nap as we were out at a school BBQ and she wouldn't fall asleep in the buggy.

More typically she seems to like to get up around 6.30am, nap 9.30-12.30 or 1 and then sleep for either 30 mins on the school run at 3.45 with 7pm BT or nap when we get home to her bed usually for 45-60 mins (I often wake her) at 4.30 with a 7.30 BT.

She mostly STTN but sometimes has a quick BF and straight back to sleep around 4.30-5.30ish (normally the latter).

I'm wondering how long this can last and if anyone with an older baby had a similar nap routine at this age how it progressed.

TIA.

DD moved to a similar-ish routine at 7 months. We would get a long am (2hours +) nap and so the pm was just a quick 30 minute CN but I pulled BT forward to compensate for this. Soon I started capping the CN to 10 minutes and by 9 months we had already had a bunch of 1 nap days. I would suggest holding on to the CN for as long as she easily goes down for it. while at the same time pushing the am nap later. Right now its a bit too early to be sustainble for a 1 nap routine yk? Also, is EBT an option?

We went to one nap at 7.5 months with DD3 as nothing worked to get that catnap in. Her nap was not so long though (2hrs, maybe 2.5? Sheesh was only last year and I don't remember!) and she is lsn so we are done with napping now.   Her naps from 4 months were one longer am nap and an afternoon catnap...again I don't remember the timings exactly.

Thanks ladies. Very helpful as ever.

I don't even think she is LSN as she is getting 4hrs of day sleep most days, she just seems to like it mostly in the first nap. I never aim for a one nap day and she always wants to sleep around 9.30, definitely no later than 10.

In theory I can do EBT but the days she skips the nap are normally if we are out for afterschool activities so often by the time I'm home it's 6pm anyway and often 7 by the time she is asleep. If I put her down too early she gets woken up by the boys going to bed anyway. She always sleeps if she goes down in her own bed.

I guess I'll just stick with it until the nap shortens or she starts refusing the second nap at home? Then I'll move it later.

Actually the boys finish school in a week so we'll likely be out more and she won't get a chance to have a long nap so much.
