Weaning, solids and getting pregos at 6months
« on: July 13, 2015, 18:12:02 pm »
Hi All,
My DS is 5,5 months EBF and we are trying to get pregnant again. I didnt get my period yet, and my doctor said one way to speed the cycle is to wean breast or limit it significantly, so here I am.

I BF at 7, 11, 3pm, 6, 730(very little), 11DF, 3NF

We just introduced solids today, 2 spoons of apple in the morning, so we are at the very beginning. In a week or two I want to eliminate 2 feedings and replace it with formula, I am thinking 11 in the morning and 5pmI will try to do it Tracy style by pumping milk for 10-12 days. One at a time I think. I will see where this gets me with the cycle.

I hope to supplement formula with breast, but if that doesnt help I will probably wean completely.

What do you all think. Is this a good plan to introduce solids and wean at the same time? Do you think 2 eliminated feedings will start ovulation?
Any advice appreciated:)

There's no absolutes when it comes to weaning and ovulation.  Some people start to ovulate very quickly despite EBF, others not for ages.  I only got my period with DD once we were down to two feeds (11 months) and not until I'd weaned completely with DS (over a year).

Yes, I know. I think I will have to wait and see how much I have to limit BF.
My concern is, if I am doing the right thing here. Everything at once, if you know what I mean.
I just hope that it wont be too much for my DS, formula and solids.
Also, weaning is hard on me I guess, the thought of it makes me plain sad :(

It is possible to get pregnant while BFing if you want to. I did it with no problems with DS2 and so have many people on here. You can always slow down a little if you feel like things are going too fast with the weaning.

Have you seen our support thread for pregnancy and BFing? Pregnant and Breastfeeding/Tandem feeding Support Thread part 2

Aw i have such trouble replacing breast  at DF. I think I have to try something else, like 11am feeding, because he is too confused at night. Maybe 11am feeding:/

Solids are going well, but he eats so much these days. It was a good decision to start giving him grown up food.

So this is our second week with solids ( apple, carrot, zucchini, potato, didnt want prune). At first he ate well, now its bad. At first he ate on my lap, but i couldnt see well and decided to put him in the high chair or on my DH lap. He doesnt sit at his own yet. The food is all over, he covers his mouth with his hands. So we're back on my lap, and today he ate a little.

DS was confused with bottle during DF, so i dropped the idea. Decided to replace 11am feed (done that 4 times). I think i will BF at 7am and 7pm ultimately, but I will drop 1 feed every 2 weeks.

It's still to early to know enything, but no period yet:(

We do expect some teeth soon though. Thats my inner voice refusing to accept my DS starts to outsmart me:)

Also, I BF DF at 11 and BF at 4am, I noticed he might not need his 4am feed. Doesnt cry when he wakes but only talks to himself. I will try to drop it, but today when I waited for him to go back to sleep after 1h I just fed him and he slept 1,5h. We do fight EW lately:/

Eh, thats a lot. Im trying to go slow because of his teething.

It will get easier.  Keep going slowly like you are.
