Please clarify solids feeding routine
« on: July 15, 2015, 05:31:10 am »
Hello,

I just started feeding DD solids. DD is currently 6.5 months old. Since her A time is 2 hrs 50 min I can only fit 3 feed and a dream feed.  so a total of 4 feeds in 24hrs. she is on 2 naps nOw. I don't understand how we can do 4 feeds and a DF based on this schedule posted by the forum  Routines for Solids and Bottles/BF's 6-12months

I would like to feed my DD more since she is small but I just can't see how unless I cut her A time down.

TIA!

Can you post your current routine for us please?  Fitting in 4 milk feeds shouldn't be a problem if you have a wake up feed, one straight after each nap and a bedtime feed. Solids are just for tastes now so once a day is fine for a while.  About an hour after her first milk feed is a good time to start.

Are you bottle or breast feeding?

Thanks for replying Laura!

5:30am woke up- DD lie in bed
6:00am  Eat - bottle breast milk
7:00am Oatmeal
8:20 am nap
10:30am Eat- bottle breast milk
1:20pm nap
2:50 pm Eat- bottle breast milk

Do you not have feeds at 6, 10.30, 2.50 and 6 then DF at 10pm  in that routine? Or is there no milk at BT? If not then that is where it would usually be.

Hi! Thx for the reply!

We don't have a feed at bedtime because I thought baby has to be in crib by 6pm otherwise her A time will get too long, right?

I can try adding a feed there. Thx!

I think almost all of us bed before bed for the night, and sometimes that does mean a bit of an OT sleepy feed, but that is OK  :).

I often find my third and fourth bottle end up too close together, but DS doesn't seem to mind at the end of the day. He tends to be hungry and happy to 'tank up' a bit before bed.

Thx Liz!

I will give it a try and see  if DD will drink at bedtime :)

I used to feed 5 times in 24 hr period but the 3-2 transition caused the drop in feed due to a routine based on 2 naps and feed every 4 hrs. Just Worry baby isn't eating enough.

I'd just feed at 5.30 or 5.45pm. I'm surprise a baby goes to bed without a more recent feed tbh!

What is the confusion about the example routine in the FAQ you linked in your first post? That has 4 feeds plus a DF...???

4 Milkfeeds during the day (6-8+ months).

7am - Milk
8am - Solids
11am - Milk
12pm - Solids
3pm - Milk
4/4.30pm - Solids
6.30pm - Milk
10.30pm - D/F if still doing one
.

Remember EASY is a flexible routine not a strict schedule so there is definitely no need to skip feeds to get them to bed at a certain time.
