Early waking tips?
« on: July 17, 2015, 19:47:57 pm »
i know there this has its own thread but looks to have been inactive for a little while.

What to do when my currently 15mo DD wakes at 5am (I expect 6/6.30 as normal for her).

Her room is dark and warm.  We use white noise and live in a very quiet street.

BT (sleep) is 7pm (lights out 6.45pm ish).

Dinner is 5pm.

Should I:
- serve dinner later (she doesn't seem hungry when she wakes but maybe this will help?)
- try to wear her out more during the day? (Pump up the active play?)
- what else?

Run out of ideas.... When she wakes at 5 or 5.30 she is ready to go? Laughing and active.

(Nap is currently 11.30am approx and goes for around 1.5-2 hrs)

I doubt she's waking early from hunger at this age.

You could try pushing her nap a bit later and see if that helps. You'd have to try it for a good week or so to really know if this helps.

Yes, active play and fresh air definitely worth a try.

How often do the 5am WUs occur and what happens? You say she's ready to go but does she want immediate attention and do you get her up and start the day then? Or does she stay in her cot for a bit?

Any teething going on? That can cause EWs.

Do you notice any difference in relation to how long her nap was? Eg is she more likely to EW after longer nap?

Thanks so much!

You know what?  I never think its teeth.  And then days later I realise its teeth.  Including last night which was our worst teething night EVER!  (Have so far until now avoided multiple night wakings for teeth, just some grizzling and then some pain meds at about 10 pm).  This was up at 9.30, 10.30-11.15, 1 and then 5.30.  Argh!

So I think you might be right about the teething, even though I'm always in some kind of "its not teething" or "I don't think its teething" frame of mind.

Once this teething period is over I will wait a few days and see what happens, maybe push that nap out a little.  But to be honest sometimes her nap is a little later and that makes not a lot of difference.  Her sleeps this week have been less than 2 hours as well, which is a little on the unusual side... probably.... teeeeeeth :(

Hope they come through quickly and the EWs disappear too

Awww, and wow... 4 at once. Ouch. Can I ask how you know they're molars? I feel bumps for DS where bottom molars should be, but he hasn't sprouted his lower incisors yet. Maybe they're coming all at once? Yikes!

While the latest changes are probably due to teeth, I've been wondering for DS if it's time to push nap a little more.  I think our LOs are now over a month older since we 'met.' We can chat about this on 2-1 thread later, perhaps after the teeth pop!

I know they're molars cos we had our first dental nurse appointment the other week and she said that the molars were coming (something that slipped my mind until the other day)...

Also have been consulting a very scientific resource... A tooth diagram on the rusk box!!

😂

Sleep was great last night, heard no sounds in the night and woke up at 6.20am. FX we get at least a few days back on track like this! (And a 2.5hr nap yesterday,
I think she was catching up... We had to bail from playcentre about 1.5hrs early too as she was so stuffed!).
