Hi all,

Really, really struggling and my confidence in understanding my Lo's routine and needs are knocked. We've used BW routines since bubs was about 5 weeks but for the last 6 weeks we've had nothing but trouble!

Here's our routine:

6-7am - Wake, breastfeed
8am Breakfast
9am - Nap - for 1.5 hours
12.30pm Lunch
2-3pm - Nap - anywhere from 15 mins to 1.5 hours
3pm breastfeed
5pm Tea
6.15pm Bath
6.40pm breastfeed & wind-down
7pm Bed

All sounds good right? Bah! Here are the latest problems:

1. Early wake-ups - anywhere from 5am.
2. Some night waking and waking 30-40mins after bedtime. I'm thinking OT/UT?
3. MASSIVE fight for afternoon nap, including biting :( She seems tired and when she does sleep she goes down for a good hour or more. But god it's hard.
4. Huge fight at bedtime. We used to be able to take her into the dimmed nursery, have a cuddle and a quick lullaby and pop her down to sleep. Now it seems there's no chance.
5. I've tried moving morning nap back by 15 mins but it's made her fight that now and wake up early from it.

I feel I've lost touch with what her needs are and what her routine should be. I don't know how to fix it. :( I feel it's too early for 1 nap? Esp as that would mean A time from 10.30am to bedtime.

NB. She was in a 'wonder week' for some of this time, had 2 teeth come through in 1 week (but that doesn't account for the other weeks/months!) and is currently learning to pull herself up.

Any help would be amazing!!

xxxxx

((Hugs)) hun, you sound really down in the dumps  :(. It will get better, I promise  :-*

Sounds classic 2-1 issues hun. Fwiw mine started the 2-1 at 9mo and we were all done and dusted and on one nap entirely by 10.5-11mo. Some are later and some are earlier than even mine.

Have a read through these links for me ok? They'll give you a better understanding about what's to come, then we can make a plan. When she is on one nap,it won't be at 10.30am and it will take time to get there. The transition is a process xx

10/11 month old sleep gone wonky? Read this first!

From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

To answer your points..
1. This is because the first nap is too early and too long
2. Yes this will be OT, I'm presuming it's worse after a shorter nap? Good to know for future reference though during the 2-1.
3. Yep, 2-1 issues. UT for this nap and fighting it
4. Again, could be UT, most are pulling a 13-hr day ahead of the transition.
5. This is bacause her nap at 9am is learned behaviour. Once kept up longer, she gotten her second wind and realises she can go longer. 2hrs A in the  morning is indicative of what 4mo can do hun.

Sorry, my answers above seem a bit blunt, but thought it best to answer them one by one. We will make this better hun, just have a read through the links above and we'll sort it ok?  :) xx

Hi there, welcome to the forums :)

It sounds like you might be hitting the 2-1 to me.  It doesn't mean she's necessarily ready for one nap all the time, but she probably needs a bit more A time and for one nap to be capped so you can fit it all in.  Have a read of this and see what you think:

From 2 to 1 nap transition (10-12m and older)

Can I just check - is she an independent sleeper?  Teething and developmental stuff can certainly cause havoc with sleep, but developmental stuff wouldn't usually last 6 weeks.  Have you tried giving meds before her naps or BT to see if that helps?

Posted with Kelly - great minds ;)

Hi both,

Thank you so much for your replies, and the stickies for me to read! I was under the impression she should be having 2 naps a day until at least 15months, not that it often can drop as early as this! There is loads of advice there for me to try so fingers crossed!

We've always had such a good routine it's horrible when it goes wonky - god bless those people who've always had it bad!

She is an independent sleeper and in the past has gone to sleep after a little cuddle and putting her into the crib awake. We use Ewan the dream sheep whilst we have a lovely cuddle. But now I realise timing was in fact everything!

Fingers crossed for better sleep all round!

xxxx :) :) :)

Anytime hun, that's what we're her for! Keep us posted ok? Here to hold your hand xx

There's a really good thread that's for others in the same boat too. I found it super useful to talk to other about the day to day stuff. Especially when they're going through it too. Have a look and perhaps post to see if others are out there? I know I'm helping at least 3 others that are all exactly where you are xx

Anyone want to talk about the 2-1 transition #27
