7 months old DD doesn't like to drink or eat - ughhhhh
« on: July 25, 2015, 18:41:58 pm »
Hello,

DD is 7 months now and always had lack of interest in drinking (breastmilk) and now with eating solids. Dr said dont force her with bottle feeding so it has been very frustrating because after STTN of 7 hrs after DF she would only drink 70 ml and sometimes less! I don't know how to make drinking or eating solids more enticing or interesting for her. I also worry the less she eats she might wake up middle of the night (besides losing weight of course).

Not sure if there is a solution to this. What are other parents doing? TIA!

How is her weight gain? It might be that she's just not a hungry child, if that makes any sense.

Babies don't starve themselves, they will generally take in any many calories as they need. She might be trying to tell you that she needs less than you think.

Thx for your reply! I appreciate it!

She is in the 10th percentile. She is on the smaller side but still on the curve at 14.5 lbs. She gains weight slowly. Hasn't drop in weight yet. She isn't a very hungry baby I think but it is worrisome that she goes for 4.5 to 5 hr stretches and only wants to drink 60 to 70 ml isn't it?

If she's following a curve, possibly not. Have you spoken to your health professional about it?

I'm afraid I have no idea on amounts as my DS completely refused a bottle!

I spoken to our family dr, a pediatrician specialist and public nurse. Basically all say not to force feed and baby won't starve herself. I feel like I can't do much.

Yes, I'd agree with them. If you read any of. Ellyn Satter's books on feeding babies and children, the key is to let them follow the signs from their bodies.

Does she have reflux or other digestive issues at all?

Have you got her on a fast teat?

No reflux issues. She is on a larger teat already. Past few days are better. She is eating a little more and a little more intetested in her solids. I guess it just takes time and that maybe she isnt a very hungry baby. Sounds like most members here just accept the fact.
