23mth old nap/ school run-need help please
« on: August 19, 2015, 14:56:19 pm »
Hi ladies.
I need some help.

Currently my 23 mth old routine is:
9am wake.
nap at 2.30 and wakes at 3.30-3.45
then bed is 8.30-9pm

However in two weeks time we will have to change this as its back to school.
We will need to fit in these times and they include 3 school runs.

8am wake
12.30 first school collection time
1.40 second school run
2.40 3rd school run

My question is where can I fit in her nap??

Will she nap on the school run in car or buggy?

If not then I would say wake her progressively earlier over the next 7-10 days (ie move your whole day to 7-7ish) and then give her her nap between school runs one and two.  She's only doing an hour or so nap currently (I'd guess she's UT for it) so if you have to cut it a touch short it shouldn't cause too much trouble.  Or stick with 8am start and do a nap between runs 2&3.  45 mins or so?

Thanks for your reply.I think I'd prefer an 8am start. Should I put her to bed any earlier then at night?
If her day was changed to
8am wake
2.00pm nap
2.35 wake
8pm bed??

I would do  try for nap between first & second run if that doesn't work use the time between the 2nd & 3rd run, I think when you get to the 4th child you kind of have to run with what works & hope for the best. I suspect you will possibly get to the point where there are times that she/he has a cat nap after all the school runs are done

Although is there the possibility that you could get someone to help out with any of the runs?

In terms of bed time. The routine now has her with 12 - 12.5 hours sleep at night + 1+ hour nap, so around 13.5 hours sleep, so if she is only going to get a 35min nap then she'd probably need to have bedtime around 7pm to make the 13 hours with an 8am wake up.

Thanks for your reply. Ill see how it goes I suppose. The school is a 5 minute walk from our house so its good in a way but also lots of little runs involved. My eldest has just turned 7 so I don't think she is ready for walking home alone yet. This would have cut out the 3rd school run and gave my 2 year old her regular nap time. Ah the joys of it all :-) lol

Only other thought - any other mums who you could share the school run with if you're so close?  Say a couple of days a week someone else could do one of the runs so your DD could get a better nap in?

If she hadn't had a nap do you think she would sleep on the last school run? Maybe you could pop her buggy somewhere quiet once you get home for her to finish the nap.  Any chance of putting her to sleep in the buggy at home and then leaving with her still asleep for the last school run?  Otherwise I would squeeze as long a nap as you can between the last two school runs and let her make up the lost sleep at night.

Can you feed her to sleep and then lay her in the buggy? Have it laid back and ready to lay her in. You could get one of those covers to black out the buggy, snooze shade do one.

I could do that but then I'd have to walk the other two with me and if its raining etc it would be more hassle I think. I might ask my neighbour tomorrow and take it from there. If she Dosent want to ill have to cut short the nap and try and earlier bedtime.
Thanks I appreciate all your help xxx

I meant to head out for the school run when you usually do but to lay her in the buggy after you feed her to sleep... ??? Or do you normally do the school run some other way?

Sorry I meant I thought you put your youngest in the buggy (stroller) and walked to school to collect your older child  from school. When you mentioned that you fed your baby to sleep (I assume that is what you meant) I was saying you could lay her asleep in the buggy/stroller instead of putting her in her bed once she is asleep. That way  she would be in there ready when you need to leave the house to go on the school run and she could carry on sleeping rather than you needing to wake her. Maybe I have misunderstood and you drive to school or something ???

Ah sorry no, last year I collected my two from school in the car and once we got home I put  dd3 straight up or her nap. I fed her to sleep on the bed. This year is different. I'm sure once we get into a routine it will all be fine x
