22 month old went from great naps & nights to hell in one day

My 22mo DS was a fantastic sleeper - I could just dump him in his crib and leave for both his bedtime and nap and he would just go to sleep.

A couple of days ago it's like a light switch went off and he is TERRIBLE now. He screams his brains out easily for an hour and I have to keep going back in there to calm him (which doesn't even work). Yesterday he cried so much for his nap I really thought he would vomit, and then he passed out on my bed for an hour and a half.

Up until now his schedule has been 7:30/8am wake up until about 8pm for bed. His nap has been typically from 1pm-3:30pm.

I have been noticing that when I put him in bed, lately he's been "talking" for a while until he falls asleep. Usually for about 20-30 minutes during nap time and sometimes a whole hour at bed time. Any suggestions for a schedule change? I can't take all the screaming and I don't want this to become a new routine.

Hi there -

WU 8am
Nap 1pm-3:30pm
BT 8pm

Seems like he is doing a little better - his nap was 12:30-3:30, so I shortened that 30 minutes. His BT was 7:30 and I changed that to 8pm so we're gaining an extra 30 minutes of awake time there as well, for a total of 1 hour additional awake time. It's still not perfect, but a little better. If you have any other suggestions to improve thing I would love to hear them!

Hi sorry i noticed after I'd posted you had written your day originally.

I'd think you need a later BT on that length of nap, must do a 13 hr day so LO could be a bit ut by BT x

Hi, my lo is around the same age as your.
I agree with Zoe that you need to make bt latter or capped the nap at 2h. Capping the nap helped us.
Paying attention to her cues also helped. Some nights she`s just not ready for bed at her bt and I get it, btdt so I let her get a bit more tiered.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that shrinking nap time and a later bedtime really helped. Things are back to "normal"... For now!
