Where to put feeds? Just started solids and naps changing
« on: September 25, 2015, 02:22:26 am »
Dear all
Lo is almost 7 mths. I just started solids via BLW ( so he hardly eats anything, just plays). I have been giving him solids once a day, but would like to up it to 2xs a day. At the same time, his naps are changing. Can you please advice me on where to put his milk and 2 solid feeds now that his entire schedule is changing.
He is exclusively latched on and does not drink from a bottle.

His old sleep and milk pattern:
WU:730am
milk:8am
milk:10am
nap: 1030-1230pm
milk:1pm
solids: 2pm ( plays)
nap: 330-430pm
milk: 445pm
milk and sleep: 730pm

one night feed ( 330-530am)

His new sleep pattern as of today: ( I'm trying it out)
WU 7.30
A 3hr 45
S 11.15 - 1.15
S 4.15 - 5.00
A 3hr
BT 8pm

Where should I put in his milk and 2 solid feeds?

Hiya, as you've said you're doing blw I would go with whatever time suits you best. Personally I started with breakfast next as it's not too close to BT and meant I could give my DD something to play with while I ate mine.

What about milk feed on Wu (8ish) and then solid food to play with while you eat yours after that. I know the idea is often to offer an hour later so they're hungry enough to want to but if at this point heMs mainly just exploring and playing then 8.30ish should be fine.

What do you think?

I would then follow up with milk at the same times - mid morning and post nap. Then offer solids again around 2ish as you have been.

Then do milk at 5ish on with from the CN, and then ore bed as you already are.

I remember his phase as feeling like I spent the whole day preparing food and feeding my LO, for a little while. Remember the beauty of BLW is that it can fit in with you a bit more, if you're eating and want him to eat at the same time he can, if you'd rather fit it in some other time, treat it like A time play.

Hope that makes sense :)

Yes, I do feel like I'm spending the whole day preparing food and feeding LO.  =)

Thanks for advice. I will give him his solids mid morning (830am) and post 1st nap then. ( 2ish)

His naps are changing. Do I change his milk feed times too to fit the new schedule?
Or are his old milk times still compatible with his new nap schedule?
Do I need to change his second milk feed time as his 1st nap has now changed to 1115am)

old schedule
WU: 730am
milk: 8am
milk: 10am  ( this is as his first nap is at 1030am)
nap: 1030am-1230pm/1pm
milk: 1pm/115pm

New schedule:
WU: 730am
milk: 8am
milk:?
nap: 1115am-115pm
milk: 130pm

I honestly can't remember exactly what I did at this point, and my DD was FF by this stage but I would say if he is still taking a full feed then keep the feeds where they are. At this point I think if he needs longer between feeds then he'll start to take less. And because solids are not yet established you needn't worry about it being too soon.

But if you want to and he seems comfortable, you can always offer slightly later than 10am, he may well start take more in at each feed then. But otherwise, if the milk feeds are working for you both as they are...then don't change it :)

Thks!
I've pushed the second back by 30 mins and he's seems pretty happy with it too.
