Tongue tie clipped - nursing still painful
« on: October 02, 2015, 21:31:32 pm »
Got my 5wo's tongue tie clipped yesterday but it's not having the improvement I was hoping for. The very first time I put him back on the breast right after the procedure it felt great and he was gulping milk. But ever since then it's the same as before - infrequent swallowing, nipple pain, the "lipstick nipple" when he pulls off, etc. Is there a learning curve to this? Between the pain and his slow weight gain so far I'm about ready to call it quits and admit defeat.  :'(

Lots of (((hugs)))

It can take up to 14 days to see full improvement. However since you had a great feed followed by a regression I would try a chiro or osteo - tongue tie can cause musculation tensions in the jaw.

Did they teach you stretching exercices to reduce the risk of reattachment?

Obviously it is up to you and if you want to quit that is perfectly fine. But I can Tell you that it will get better, you are still early days and as I said it can take some Time before LO learns how to use his new tongue.
