Is this over tiredness?
« on: October 15, 2015, 06:05:07 am »
hi
I'm having a horrid time with 10mth LO.  I just don't know why all the wake ups.  She is definitely spending most of her days wi one nap and then asleep by 6pm every night.
The thing is, she'll sleep till about 10.  I'll feed her and she'll go back to sleep fine, but from then on she'll wake about every 1.5-2hrs, all the way to about 6.30am.  Why?  I only feed every 4hrs at night as a rule, otherwise, when she stands and cries in the crib, I gently lay her back down.  During one session about 12am, it can take a good hour for her to fall back asleep (last night I rocked her as she was trying to suck her thumb and get back to sleep but couldn't).  I don't know why this happening, do you have any idea?  When she had two naps in the day, she would wake two hourly from BT, at least with one nap, she gets a four hour block of sleep at night.

Did she ever STTN or do long stretches? It sounds like she's waking every sleep cycle and is unable to get back to sleep which could be OT or a habit. How does she go to sleep for naps and BT?

Never STTN, never, not once.
She self settles for naps and BT sometimes as by bed she is exhausted and will sometimes fall asleep feeding.

After many nights of PU/PD of any wakes before the four hourly gap between feeds, she has FINALLY got the message.  It seems she was waking habitually.  She woke once last night 6hrs after her bedtime feed, took a MASSIVE feed and then woke at 5.30.  Hopefully we keep the his pattern up.  I think the 5.30pm is overyiredness....but this is my problem, baby won't take a second nap, but when I feed her at 5.30pm for bed, she falls asleep for 10mins and then wakes and won't settle for another hour...ugh! Not sure what to do. I gave her an earlier nap yesterday in hope to make more room for a second nap...failed.

Here's our EASY for yesterday
6.30 wake
9.30-1pm (yes, 1pm!  3.5hrs)
4.30pm - chatted in cot, would not sleep
5.30 - fell asleep while breastfeeding, attempted transfer to cot
6.45 - resettled self to sleep
11pm - feed
5.30 wake

Today
5.30 wake
11.30 sleep (trying to extend back out.  She was exhausted.  Hope it doesn't backfire!).

My DD had a bout of sleeping for a bit at BT and then waking and playing for an hour or so around 9 months. I think it was accumulated OT and I just put her to bed earlier than usual for a bit until she caught up but I'm not sure you can really do BT much earlier. She may start catching up anyway if her nights continue like last night.

From your other posts, it looks like she's refused the second nap often. Is that right? If so, I wouldn't push that am nap too far out. If she's taking good naps at 9:30/10, I would leave that for a while if the nights get better.
