2 1/2 month old still waking in night
« on: October 09, 2015, 23:32:22 pm »
Hi!  I have been trying to sleep train my 2 1/2 month old without success.  He wants to eat every three hours in the night consistently.  I have tried to start using the pacifier at hours 3 and 4, but it only works half the time to put him off.

We have a bedtime routine, and feed him consistently every 3 hours (but sometimes 2 1/2) during the day.

He naps inconsistent lengths regardless of how hard I try to get him to sleep past 45 minutes.  Sometimes he sleeps 1 1/2 hours, mostly 45 minutes.

It's such a struggle because my trying to regulate daytimes isn't super successful, and has had no impact on nighttime sleep.  Which you parents know is wearing...!

What do I do??

Hi there, your LO is still very small and will still wake at night for feeds, most do and some can for a good few months to come.
They have lots of growth spurts and quickest way to get through them is to feed.

Feeding every 3 hours is probably about right at this age, I know it's tiring at night but it will get better in time.

How much does he take at each feed?
It is a notorious age for naps being a bit all over, babies become more aware of things and interested but naps often start to regulate around 6 months.

Have you read about wonder weeks, there is an App and a website but it's really useful and helped me loads in the early weeks to understand a lot of stuff is developmental and can't be fixed.

Just echoing pps reply. My DD2 is a little over 3 months and she still wakes at night several times to nurse. It's totally normal, even though it is tiring.

^^^ Very normal.  Try to get one nap in for yourself during the day, it does help. Otherwise, it'll pass but it just takes time.  Your LO is still so very young and he needs those calories.
